Can someone please tell me what the name is for the cable which goes from the pc to a tv so you can watch films from a computer on the television?
Thanks!

Same answer :)

Most TVs if they have a 'PC' channel use the same cables as you would use to attach a laptop or desktop to a monitor.

You can get them from Tesco for a fiver - doubt that's the cheapest place, but I got one from there and it's great.

Thanks for the helpful answers -I will have a look at the comp and go to tescos, to the unhelpful one - I thought it would be a universal cable and must apologise for my obvious lack of tech knowledge.

OP, you need to check what connections you have on your TV, as well as the laptop. My tv is just an old crt, so I got an SVideo to SVideo (as my PC has svideo, like the next picture posted above) with a scart adapter for the TV

Not sure how tescos will help?

Anyway there are various different options for getting picture and sound from laptop to a TV depending on what inputs and outputs they have.

You need to look at the specifications for inputs and outputs on both and work out which way is best.

If you list them here then somebody will prob be able to let you know what is the best option.

Alternatively if you are lost with all this then if you list the make and model of both we may be able to help.

Its a Standard VGA cable you are looking for, but that only carries video/picture,
You also require a 1.5 male to male cable for sound, the longer the better. (same ends as earphones .
