Hi all in the know,
I've just had this message from microsoft after a diagnostic from a shutdown,
W32/Pate.b.worm Virus.

Sounds nasty and still getting error reports every minute or so, i have no antivirus, what can i do to fix this?

Thanks in advance.

Get an antivirus program installed.

You could try this first: http://vil.nai.com/vil/content/v_99455.htm

Anyway do as Choc1969 says

Download avg free install it and boot into safe mode and do a full scan from there. Or try doing a system restore to a point last week when you know it worked ok. If sys restore works install avg free if you don't want to pay for one. Install spybot search and destroy also and run that regular, it's free also.

I am surprised ANYONE is connected to the internet nowadays and NOT running an anti virus.

There are a few free anti virus products around such as AVG or Avast so you could download and run one of them (they also sell software so make sure you install the free version).

DONT install both, one or the other.

Note, the message MAY not be from Microsoft but a company giving the impression they are Microsoft to maybe encourage you to buy some security software from them.

There are a LOT of companies who pretend to be your friend to fix all your security problems, but just want you to part with £39.99 for some useless piece of software.

Do you know what Microsoft product is giving this message, the only one I can think of is Defender which I think Microsoft installs nowadays, but that hunts for spyware & malware and not viruses.

Change the wife.

Then go here and get your own free security programs.
