PC World Price Match

Just been in to PC World with my online reservation for a Wii game. It was £29.99 in the store and online and I had a printout for the Game website with the game listed as £14.99

The lady at the counter refused to match it and brought me over to the manager. He swiftly told me that they do not price match with Game Online, only Game stores. I showed him the Price Match conditions from their website that stated they price match with websites including Game.

He refused to listen to me and was quite abrupt, he argued that Game do not have it in stock, they just take the money then order the stock in and deliver. I showed him the documentation that clearly stated "in stock and ready for immediate despatch". He wouldnt even look and said they can write what they want but it wont be.

He then told me to get it from Game website. I pointed to the big sign up above that says "internet Prices to Take home today" with a big "Price Match" logo next to it and said thats what I want. He told me to stop shouting and arguing and to wait as he was with a customer. I told him I wasn't arguing, I just wanted him honour the terms of the offer. He told me to go away and call head office. I said I will, but I will call them here. He told me to wait, so I did.

He came back and said, you'd be better going home and calling head office. I said, I'll wait until your finished and you can go through the t&c's that state it has to be game store and not the website as stated. Again, he said stop arguing as he was with another customer. (even though he stopped to come back to me).

He finally agreed to honour the match but warned me that he would not agree to price match under these conditions in the future. I pointed out that the signs are misleading and its false advertising. I asked for my 10% of the difference and he refused point blank as he was doing this as a "one off".

He then took a copy of my printouts and my receipt (which contains details of my bank card), huffed and puffed and walked away.

I feel I may have to make a complaint as he made me feel small in front of other customers and refused to honour the deal.

Am I in the right?

well done, he needs to take a course in customer service. What an idiot(Did he look like a sad, unhappy with his job/life jerk?)

i wish i was there the scene you have just described is humilihating as well as hilarious "He told me to stop shouting and arguing and to wait as he was with a customer. It even lists on the PC World website all the websites they will price match against.
Game is included on that list.

Big up for staying put and doing what's right. Silly *******'s wife probably swaned off with his brother (who works in Game) the previous night.

Write a letter / contact someone higher up and report. Us consumers shouldn't have to go through this.

And as for not honouring it again - great, I doubt very much you'll be shopping there in the future. :)

Edit: And I'm gonna rep you for standing up against PC World's idiocy.

Should have kicked him in the nads. <-- For future reference

Its quite funny you say that because someone who knew him personally (who I thought was his wife) said to him just before I spoke to him, "I'll wait here John until you've finished".

After I was supposedly arguing with him and he turned to deal with his customer, she turned to me and said, "To be fair, he did come back to you to carry on arguing when you told him you'd wait until he'd finished."

He refused to give me the 10% difference. I know its only £1.50 but its the principle. I'm going to phone Head Office tomorrow and make a complaint.
#9
I'll check for you tomorrow about this as to make ends meet I actually work at a PC World over the weekends. See what they say.

Damn I didn't realise you were that old. I remember somebody once saying that everybody employed by PC World was retired. Think that's what they said anyway......

Good on you for sticking to your guns.

There's no excuse to have been treated in this way it may help if you complained to the relevant section of PC world.

Which PC World branch was this btw?

The one in Liverpool Aintree. I've had plently of things price matched in there before, including things off Amazon. He argued the toss that Game is a high street retailer and Amazon is not.

The point I was trying to make (and every time I tried to make it, he cut me off) was that it mentions Game website, not store: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/editorial/price-match-promise

dude complain and focus on the manager not saying "this store" ect... make a complaint against him specifically... get him taken down a peg or two.
#15
I know it wont go anywhere but I've made a complaint to the ASA for false advertising. Even though I got the product in the end, he said this was one time only and would not be done again in future.

Thanks for the rep guys, much appreciated.

Phoned up Customer Services today and logged a complaint, they took all my details and said it would be passed to his Area Manager to deal with the poor customer service.

He's also sending me out a £10 voucher in the post.

Result.

Lol!!!

Funnier still would be, if you met the same manager. . .

P.S. £10.00 aint a bad result after all. :)

I think I won't bother price matching, it's more headache than it's worth.

Sweet jesus imagine that going into PC World and getting useful, helpful advice rather than absolute **** spewed at you :w00t:

its the same story when you try and phone them up. I remember when i tried to price match with PC World for a keyboard on dell.co.uk. The response i got was item is too cheap and therefore must be a grey import so unfortunately we cannot price match. Then after some persuasion they said ok we will have to confirm with the head office before everything goes ahead and we'll phone you back around 4. I never did get that phone call.

Thats just the thing though, they can't advertise such an offer and not honour it.

He never even bothered to listen to me or read the documentation I had. All he kept saying was stop shouting, stop arguing. I've never shouted at anyone!

£10 voucher arrived in the post today. Time to go back in for another price match on Top Spin
#27
Nice one! Make sure you go back to the same guy :D
#28
Got a £49.99 SD card for £1.49 using my voucher. Store manager just looked at me when the assitant called her over, and told her to "just put it through".

He must have had a rolicking from area manager.
#29
You have my admiration, adjnicho. Well done!

I am always wary about complaining. I imagine the employee somehow being given my address, resulting in a brick through my window, damage to my car while parked outside etc etc.

Imagine (and it's quite possible) the area manager being an old friend of your obnoxious manager. He might well pass on your address so that his mate could take revenge.

All of which makes you a hero and me a coward!

I wonder if this is the reason the Online Price Match got scrapped...?!?!
