Pending prosecution?????

I got a text message from my missus yesterday (after a failed voice call) to say there was an emergency and to call ASAP.

I called and found out that my Dad had been involved in an incident at home and the police had been called.

Basically he was at home in the living room, heard a very loud bang noise outside at the back of the house. He went to investigate. By the time he found the key and unlocked the back door, he opened it to find that someone was in the porch and the back double glazed door had been put through. Luckily this guy was more shocked at being caught he simply bolted after letting out a loud yelp of surprise.

Allegedly, my dad swore at this guy as he fled and has admitted he would liked to have throttled him had he managed to get hold of him.

Obviously, smashing a back door isnt a nice thing to do, but these people need protecting from abusive language and threats of violence Luckily, the police havent said they are going to press charges, but who knows these days!

(Hey in this PC world.. I wasnt quite sure how to say this without getting jumped on for being related to someone who had just reacted in this way!)

So there you go. Broad daylight(2pm) daylight smash and grab.

Time to install CCTV at his house I think (but without sound - I dont want to hear that sort of language!)

Insurance was pretty good. Door was boarded up by 5.30pm. But it makes you wonder how safe anyone is when things like this happen in broad daylight!

Oh. And inb4 comments about "rough areas" and alike

Hehehe!
Seriously, your poor dad must have been quite shaken. Not a nice incident and lucky that the (useless) intruder scarpered.

An aside:
Does anyone, except for a miscreant, 'scarper'?

I didn't even notice the 'Prosection'.

I've just installed CCTV at my house (mainly 'cos there is a new car on the drive and another arriving in January.) - Doesn't protect, but hopefully is a deterrant.

Plenty of dodgy characters around on their PCs all day, every day, too..... (No jakes!)

The police did turn up, but dint do anything. Didnt even dive a crime reference number, which the insurance co have already asked for! (Would that mean its not been logged as an incident?)

Your dad has every reason to swear.

For one its not an offence to swear at someone else within the same property. Only to one outside and via versa. Also threats is not either, as long as you feared for your life or property or others in your house hold. So crack on!

Think you or your dad got the wrong end of the stick or the Police did not explain it properly. I.e. not worth confronting someone like that as who knows what they carry or may do.

Hope all is well with your dad. Think some cheap security would go a long way:
Extra ights,
Dead locks,
Trellis on the fence outside,
even a fake CCTV camera...... puts people off,
Security stickers stuck to windows, i.e. fitted with such and such (Get these on flea bay for about 1.50.

All the best.:)

Likewise...... I kinda think it would have been my dad that would have been beaten though if he hadn't done a runner / scarpered / bolted.

Many thanks...... That part was tongue in cheek though! :p

Annoyingly, only a fortnight ago, I put up some extra external lighting after his front wall got kicked in. Hopefully this isnt related. He was pretty shaken up and unable to give any sort of description of this guy - though siad he was fairly certain there was more than one of them.

Get him a shotgun and some valium, he could say he was 'sleep shooting a pheasant' :whistling:

Last time a HUGE box trailer of mine (hitch locked and wheel clamped) got nicked by the pikees the police didn't bother to come out but offered me counselling for my loss !!! :x

Like i'd been bereaved..................Wasters :x:x

its horrible, i don't think any house is safe at the end of the day a glass window is easily broken cctv etc should act as a warning to anyone and hopefully maybe them think twice, the best thing your old man can do is try to get on with his life

at least it was only glass broken

Yeh, that was our thoughts too. It could have been much much worse.

Just spoke to my Dad. Seems the Police did turn up later yesterday evening to take a statement and give a crime reference number. Funnily, the comment they made was "it would be a good idea to put up CCTV"! Bit late to be "checking for finger prints" given the door had been boarded up!

Makes me sad though to know the type of people we have to put up with in this world.

I'm surprised he's taken it as well as he has to be honest! The "if I'd have got hold of him" does make me laugh though.

Anyone breaks in my house --- my actions would be self defence ;)
#29
Should not be the answer but probably best to now make house seem an unattractive prospect to an oportuntist.
*****ly plants - pyracantha is excellent, crunchy noisy gravel, and things that will make people think twice about which property they might consider is an easy target. PIR activated taser if you can find one on the internet LOL

Starred item was p_rickly

I wouldn't throttle a burglar if caught.................I'd have to torture him !
#31
hi, cant imagine a prosecution here. police need a complainant and i dont think the guy involved would be prepared to make a statement and risk identifying himself as a burglar. i dont think anyone has ever been prosecuted for thinking something, otherwise we all would be in trouble!! lol
#32
Your father would be prosecuted for swearing at a yob and saying he'd like to throttle him?

We should all be banged up in that case.

Glad your dad was ok, could have been a lot worse. Thieving scum should be shot on sight - On my property, my rules.

TEXAS FTW!
