People's thoughts on Sony PSP2 (aka NGP!!!!)

Just wanted to know what people thought of the new NGP that will be out at the end of this year.

My personal thought being that everything about it is amazing, but the graphics are especially amazing.

Only thing im not looking forward to is the price tag.

P.s I have an xbox 360, before we start having some sort of fanboy war.

Just wanted thoughts on the console :)

ngp looks good, but sony have got to get the price right.

With smart phones being so good I see no need for it anymore. Uncharted portable, big deal its still a small screen, I can game at home on a 42 plasma with sound system which is better.

Not like you can skive work and play it which is something you can on the ipad, phone or laptop! :p

Can't exactly take your PS3 on the train/bus/plane with you... I would have died of boredom when I flew to America.. Gameboy kept me entertained (this was a few years ago) as the in-flight movies were dire!

P.S. My thoughts on the NGP are that it looks good and I'd like to get one, but I won't be rushing to get one on release day due to the price. I don't know what it's gonna cost, but it will no doubt be a hell of a lot! Will probably get one when they come down to £150-200

Me buying one also hinges on whether its been hacked or not. If i got one, playing PSOne games on it would be something i'd use it a lot for, but i woulddn't want to have to buy them from the PSN store when I have physical copies already! Hopefully something like Popstation for the PSP will be made...

lol at people comparing a hand held to a full size console.

I like the look of it as it's new tech but I can't see this overtaking the PSP's sales figures. The handheld market is best and most successful when dealing with innovative and interesting ways of playing (DS, iPhone etc) rather than brute graphical power (which, granted, has its market).

The price and the distribution method of mobile games has been responsible for what I see as a huge shift in how developers approach games these days. Also, lets face it, most of us has had more fun in 10 minutes on the toilet playing Angry Birds than hours sat in front of the PS3/360 gives us...

No but generally those who travel the country wont use it as they will be driving and stopping over in places. I dont want to carry 3 devices including 3 chargers plus work notes and books, 2 is a maximum. Those who frequently travel the world on business wont use it as they'll have laptop and smartphone (including chargers) aswell which offer gaming that is "adequate" for a 10-12 hour experience. Andorid and ios have Sonic, N.O.V.A, final fantasy, street fighter, tetris, crash bandicoot, angry birds, fieldrunners, lumines, football manager and worms. All games that on handhelds of yesteryear would have sold for £20+.

For 2/3 trips abroad a year a £300 device for the plane doesnt make sense.

I'd get a 3DS just for the quirky 3D tech and with Game.co.uk doing the deal where you can buy the console for £197 then after a month sell it back at £180 just to try it out short term.

Shouldnt really be a problem these days since the tech has moved on drastically. They both can do the same things so why cant they be compared?

When I am off on my travels, I tell my son to get either his DS or PSP.
To date he has never grabbed his PS3, Wii or 360 by mistake.

Pretty impressed from what I've seen so far. Its seems like they've taken in the criticisms of the first PSP, and improved upon it.

The NGP has sparked interest in some of the best, high caliber developers in the games industry.. so we should see some great third party support as well as Sony's 1st party titles to look forward to. Just give me Marvel Vs Capcom 3 and a new Timesplitters and I'll take 5!

Progression in technology means that we can get a console like experience in a handheld form. Its like you have the capability of a PS3 to take with you on your travels. No more watered down versions/ports of your favorite console games.. but the full thing as close as it was intended to look, on the go. I mean its not everyone's cup of tea, but I'm certain a lot of people want this (me included).

I love the argument, "I can take in on my travels", why bother travelling and spending your time on a handheld version of what you have at home but on a smaller screen? Why not look at the surroundings your travelling to, or are at.

Also it still comes back to the point that you'll need a charger for the NGP and a charger for your phone. Unless Sony have been clever and have the same charger for both Sony Ericsson phones and the NGP. Thats an overlooked thing with Apple, their chargers can be quite neat and small which is ideal for frequent travellers in reducing weight and size of luggage.

I'm generally pro Sony but graphics don't cut it anymore as even a jailbroken iPhone 3gs can play PSOne emulators made by home modders. 3D is an innovation by Nintendo, Apple has innovated in the way games are delivered, i.e cheaper prices and ease of download (via the device or via iTunes), Android is similar but also allows sideloading of apps. Sony have just gone for graphics, yet again.

If they'd have included 16/32GB of storage, introduced an iTunes style Playstation App for PC and Mac and brought out handheld NGP PS2 and PSP game emulation then I might think different but they seem to still be milking PS1 games 10-15 years after the fact. Or imagine if they had the NGP in 3D and be emulating PS2 games but also in 3D like how the Samsung screens have a "3D mode" which works quite well for non 3D games, but no, here's similar graphics for games you already have, but now there not on your 42 and 50 inch plasma's, there on a sub 6 inch screen.

The "PlayStation Suite" software framework is intended to improve upon PlayStation Store for the Next Generation Portable [NGP] & Xperia Play devices (& future PlayStation Certified requirements like the rumoured rival to the iPad in development by Sony at present).

Downloadable PlayStation 2 titles are coming to the "PSP" platform later this year.

Regarding on-board capacity of the NGP, the specifications for the bespoke "NVG card" (flash memory) have not been disclosed yet.

You will be able to connect the NGP & the Xperia Play to external HDMI displays.

GTFO of here, he would rather look at the hard shoulder on the M1 instead of playing little big planet on his PSP.
