OK so here is the thing.

My cousin ordered and paid for a car number plate online. As he was making payment with his card, he got a error page telling him that there was issues with his card. As he is not so great with computers, he called me and asked if I could purchase it for him if he gave me his card details. Sooooo I logged on to another site I googled and bought him another plate which I said was better. This was within half hour of his first attempt.

The money was taken out of his account the same night we ordered it and he has now recieved the plates I purchased. A day after, money was taken out again for the one he tried to get and he has not recieved it yet.
So he has now ended up with both the plates. I spoke to both companies and they both said that it is bought and nothing can be done. I spoke to his bank and they said "do I have a screenshot of the error page?" Ofcourse not. If it tell's him it has not gone through then why would he. The bank was useless too.

Has anyone had this problem before? any ideas as to what he can do?

Thanks all in advance

Why cant he just sell one of them? surely they cant have dropped much (if at all) in price :?

Look into Distance Selling Regulations. They may apply in this instance.

I think you should speak to the payment gateway for the site your cousin got the error on and explain to them whats happened. Did he receive a receipt from the site or the payment gateway saying theres been an error or if the payment was successful?

if you are stuck with the plates, it's not the end of the world. There may come a time when your cousin wants to tow a trailer or caravan ( after all the car may be changed, but i'm sure he will keep the personal registation number), then he has the yellow back plate ready.

eh....

"Sooooo I logged on to another site I googled and bought him another plate which I said was better"

(I would guess different numberplates....not multiple copies of the same one...)

Doh!!

It was the fault of the OP, he should have said that he had purchased a registration number, not a " number plate ".;-)

Thanks everyone for your views and suggestions.

@lil_tiger & inactive - Everyone knew what I ment and I am sure you guys did aswell, what is the point in making an issue of weather I said plate or number. A bit of common sense would have made you think that why would I be going crazy about a plate when I can bin it and get a new one for £6 or just keep it until my cousine cracks it or wants a new clean one. And yes DUHHHHHHHHHHHHH
