Baby in the breast?

Food in another?

Are you sure they weren't supposed to be in there? The "food" may have been stuffing or even giblets

Yes. Which makes me think that the OP has bought something she doesn't understand and whatever "baby" was in there, is supposed to be in there.

It's not like they shot a pregnant pheasant that was just about to give birth!

I'm going to hazard a guess and say they were giblets.

If all you wanted was the breasts then there was no need to skin and gut the birds..just slice down the breastbone and fillet them out...simples..job done in five minutes..

The food would have been in it's crop situated below the neck, where it joins the breast.. Maybe one had eaten a dead baby something which was also in it's crop..

I find it best to just simply roast the birds after skinning or plucking...about an hour is enough.
Put bacon over the breasts if skinned to stop drying out...

Hope you enjoy them...
