Is it just me or are all the scum of this world giving everything they have got trying to milk everyone who is struggling at the moment?

Every other day i get emails saying log into various bank accounts as there are issues (9 out of 10 i dont even have) blar blar blar!

All of them are quite obvious fake and trying to get my log in details!

Why cant they trace these bas****s and prosecute them!

I think the Mail servers sending them out are based overseas and as such, the Police/Government have no authority to stop them.

I've been getting a load of failed delivery messages from one of my hotmail accounts.

I think I read somewhere that there is more spam sent now than genuine e-mails.

That isn't correct. Laws do exist in other countries regarding unsolicited emails. The police or anybody will encounter difficulties carrying out a trace for the following reasons:

1. The emails originate from an internet cafe - this is the most popular method of sending unsolicited emails.
2. The emails originate from somebody else's computer so performing a trace on the IP address (for example, Outlook Message Options give the originating address) would be futile.
3. Even if the email was sent from a computer that wasn't hijacked (as mentioned in 2. above) it is difficult to verify the actual sender of the email was physically at the computer used to send the email during the time the email was sent.
4. Processes exist that search the internet for easy hosts to use to send the emails making the offender virtually untraceable.
5. The originator attribute in sending the email can be changed - there are methods do to this but I won't divulge of course.
6. Proxy servers can be used or remote log in to another computer can be used to avoid IP detection.

Same here, as soon as you even open the emails nowadays without clicking any of the links contained in them the sender knows your email address is real and then you've had it, they just keep on coming!
