Phone cashback questions

Evening all,

OK to start with, this is all a bit new to me, so please bear with me......

I am looking at getting a Motorola V3i, through Quidco, from CoolNewMobile on 12 month contract/12 month free line rental with Vodafone. It comes with free connection. I am only really after a nice new free handset and really don't plan to use it very much at all. (With my current PAYG phone, I have to remember to make a call every 180 days just to keep it alive)

CNM quote £315 cashback and 12 month free line rental equivalent after cashback.

Q1: Its £30/month which I make £360 for 12 months.....Where does £315 come from??

Q2: If I unlock it and give to my wife to use with her SIM overseas will I run into cashback problems because there is no (UK) phone activity? ie perhaps no Vodaphone bills issued? Is it actual use or merely monthly payments that are important?

Q3: The offer allows 200 Mins/month and (I think 1 month of call minute rollover). So at the end of 12 months when I want to cancel the contract, how do I make a "chargeable" call if on day 1 of the 13th month I have 200 plus 200 minutes?

Hope the questions are not too obvious. I have spent a fair amount of time reading this forum.

Any help/advice welcome.
Thanks
Gary

Hi Gary and welcome to HDUK.
Right then,
Q1,
Most companies give you 3 months half price line rental.
I started a three network contract last month with CNM, my first three payments to three network will be £17.50 P/M, then £35.00 there after.

Q2,
Monthly Payments are all that you need to claim cashback.
Your O/H will need to phone up her provider and tell them she will be using her sim/phone overseas. Is the V3i OK for overseas use? I recently used my V3X in Frane with no problems.

Q3,
Once you cancel the contract all minutes carried over will be cancelled. To be honest you are better off cancelling the contract and getting a new one, in 12 months there will be better mobiles and better deals available, IMO.

Best way to deal with Q3, is to find out what is "not" included. Say for example, calles to your voicemail are not free, call that. Some companies charge for dialing, 0800, 0845 or 0870 numbers, so again, call one of those for a few seconds, to minimise the cost, but to make a chargeable call.

Thanks Dinosteveus and Boydent999 for the welcome and taking the time to reply. All info gratefully received.

The v3i should be OK overseas: It is a quadband (850/900/1800/1900MHz)....glad I checked though.

Cheers

It seems that by hesitating and asking questions, I have missed the boat. I can no longer find that V3i on CoolNewMobile offer.

Oh well, I'll just have to bide my time......
