Mum recently got a new mobile phone (Nokia 6085) and everything seems to be working fine.....EXCEPT.....She cant receive picture messages.

I have looked through the book and everything seems to be on the correct settings, but she is just not receiving them. Any ideas???

if its a payg phone then yes you usually do have to ring up and get your network to enable your sim for mms, well thats been my experience with O2 anyway.

Remember MMS is not direct like normal SMS's.

AIUI, you upload your picture via data connection to the network, they host the picture and send the recipient(s) recieve a link which your phone automatically opens via data connection to view the picture.

So PAYG enabling, data connection/mms settings need to set and it's all rather messy bad attempt to con you of your money with poor quality pictures ;)

check the nokia web site cos ou can usually get the MMS settings sent diect to your fone. Also you may need the media bar lifted by the network on that account

I got the kids 2 PAYG mobiles/SIMs from T_Mobile & the default was MMS barred (not on phone but through T-mobile network). After a quick phone call to T-Mobile they updated SIM/lifted bar no probs. Was done in 2mins. So give your SIM provider a call & they should correct it

Its def the MMS Kelly, you will be sent a message that you will have to save in your settings plus you might have to enter a password which will be given to you.

These settings work only after the first time you SEND a pic message

So need to call O2 and THEN send a pic? Because she is able to send pics now, just cant receive them

Well, just tried that and got the settings sent to me, saved them and then sent a picture message from the phone (someone said earlier had to do that after getting the settings) and still cant receive any!

Looks like I am going to have to call them - thanks anyway

Yup - just called and spoke to someone who has told me that it is because previous phone was an i-mode phone and I need to change the settings, now I just need to know how to do that - instruction book for old phone doesnt help at all!

So have you put the SIM card from the old NEC i-mode phone into the new Nokia model ? So is it the SIM that's blocking pics not phone ? Can't understand why they told you to change i-phone settings ? O2 aren't really helping you are they - maybe call back & hope you get someone more helpful to talk to or explain things better. :)

Here's the Nokia 6085 MMS download page if you want to try that, if O2 are saying it's not them blocking MMS >http://www.nokia.co.uk/A4222200. Takes you through the various steps to receive MMS pics.

Correct

They said that the sim is on i-mode and that needs to be switched off, didnt say how to do it and neither does the book.

After searching I found a site which helped a bit, and then I worked it out myself from there!

So its working now! Thankyou sooooooooo much for all of your help and support
