Because if the location info and internet connection (via mobile phone network) the iphone offers so much more than the ipod touch, I would senn yr phone and ipod and get the iphone. iphone has the ipod built in so its still good for yr music etc and you only meed 1 thing in yr pocket.

Loving all the apple fanboys that don't know their anus from their elbows.

You should always do your research and see what you like/want in a phone.

I own an iPhone, a hero and a hd2 and the one I use least is the iPhone.

It's down to personal preference but I'm kinda bored of the iPhone now. Most of the apps are absolute garbage and the lack of multi-tasking and flash is just absurd.

Best thing the op can do is try each phone out.

don't mean to flame! Just hate that iphone owners assume that people reccomending other phones are people who can't afford iphones.
If you look at sim free, the hd2 is actually more expensive than the iphone 3GS.

HTC Hero gets my vote. Awesome phone and some good contract deals about. The Android app market is growing massively and the ROM cooking scene is very exciting at the moment.

Wouldn't listen to the Apple fanboys personally.

A few. Wouldn't use one by choice but they're good for work. Wan't a big fan of the Storm but haven't tried the second one.

I've got the hero, hd2 and omnia. decided on the hd2 in the end.... can't actually use the other two now coz the screen on the hd2 makes all others look bloody tiny in comparison! noticed that too?

Admittedly, I haven't had much of a play with the iphone but the closed technology bothers me as does some of the missing basic functionality (like the "copy and paste REVOLUTION that was added to iphones quite recently). windows mobile, which the hd2 runs, is fiddly as hell but I've used windows for ages so not too perturbed. need to use xda-developers to get best use of the phone!!

Iphone is though a great phone for games
but android is catching up fast!

And android is actually quite a joy to use, even though it sometimes seems a bit too simple.

Thing about the HD2 though is that you can view an entire website properly on it. EATS battery though!

Tried the leaked 2.01 (eclair is it?) ROM that came out? it looks pretty promising!
Plus it is definitely the cheapest of the smartphones out. and its pretty damn smart to boot!

Oh didn't know that!
T-mob are the only ones who actually have it on sale now then! Vodafone had it but its on massive backorder and they decided to stop selling it as they thought it would harm their upcoming iphone sales. O2 have it too but haven't put it out on general release yet, only through retentions (which is how I got mine)

but you can get it on a mobile phone contract with mobiles.co.uk I think it is? one of the CPW group any rate.

I was talking to a friend about how small the iPhone feels after using the HD2 - it really does feel like a toy in comparison.:-D

The battery lasts about a day if I really pound it although I was going through 30% just leaving it on standby whilst I was sleeping because I had too many things updating. Had a play with it and it's working fine now.

The Windows Marketplace needs more apps, but there's plenty of free ones that you can find on the xda forums.

I like Android too, but it just needs to be a bit prettier. Not that impressed by the Nexus One. The Hero Sense UI is still the best android UI I've personally used.

The iPhone UI just feels old and boring in comparison to the HTC UI's. It needs a major re-design in the 4.0 software.

Mate has a blackberry curve.... he's pretty damn happy with it but its a bit of a pain to set up.
Its really useful if you text or email a lot.

If you serve the web more, a touch screen may be better.

I'm using the Modaco 1.5 (3.0) with the 1.91 Teknologist kernel. Flies to be fair.

You sir are absolutely spot on. Nice to see someone not obsessed with the apple machine!

I love my hd2 its just a tad buggy at times which is why I toyed with picking up my hero again.... but i picked it up and tried using the screen and it was nigh on impossible! its just tiny in comparison!
which ROM are you running?
I'm using the 1.61 that got leaked. its pretty damn good!
polished off some of the annoying texting bugs too which was nice....

Totally agree with your nexus one point. its a really disappointing design! and the trouble is that the htc sense UI is the best thing about the hero so once u strip that away, your left with native android which is just not as good.
The one thing i miss about android though is the marketplace. its lovely to just look in one place for apps. windows mobile is still so fragmented and no-one's trying to put it all in one place. windows marketplace is as shockingly bad and empty as ever!

I'm also not especially impressed with the iphone ui. i think it needs to move on a bit. I mean its great and simple and does just work.... but I much prefer the Sense UI and how much info you can get on one screen with it.

i don't have an iphone but have an ipod touch and like someone else has already mentioned i'd say 9/10 application are garbage so that is no selling point to me

i personally like to have a seperate mp3 player to phone anyway- blackberries are supposed to be good if you use them to their full potential, suppose it comes down to what you use your phone for, i personally use my phone to just phone and text, don't even take pictures so i have a tocco lite does the job fine

good luck in your search

this website is quite good for reviews:

i used this when i am due upgrades etc

dont have an iphone and dont want one either - hubby has a blackberry and they are ok but not my cup of char - I have a Nokia N95 on 3 and am quite impressed tbh with you - got a few apps on it from Ovi and n-gage on it also - games are good - internet is great - not that I am trying to sell it to you ;) LOL!

I am also due an upgrade and am torn between the iphone and HD2. Google are about to launch the new Nexus. I may wait a few weeks and see what all the hype is about before committing myself to a lengthy contract.

can't reccomend the HD2 enough, seriously!

But as everyone has been saying, depends on what you use your phone for.

It has a good camera, is pretty good for phoning and texting but has a bug where it will take ages to open up the conversation mode of a contact you have a lot of texts with. there is ofcourse a workaround!
Also very good for surfing the web as you can see and read whole websites on the phone (when holding it sideways) and the screen is big and beautiful!

There's also loads of programs and games but unlike android and iphone, they're split around loads of places on the web. windows marketplace is pants!

HD2 is a good phone, but is basically like the iPhone only not as good in almost every single way.

Again, its for people who can't afford iPhones (they are roughly the same price sim only, but the HD2 gets discounted by the operators.

Of all the complaints about the iPhone the only one that stands up is the lack of flash. All the other minor niggles like multitasking can be fixed by jailbreaking.
#32
To throw my opinions in to the hat. I have owned everything over the years, am not an apple fanboy, but it was deservedly named the top gadget by the Gadgetshow recently, it is a remarkable thing.

I have also had blackberries and all variety of touch screen and standard phones.

I am going for a hero myself. It is on order. Main reasons are the great deals you can get on it (going for a £20 pm contract) and that I am a little bored with the iphone 3G (so 3GS not a big enough change). Still though, it has been a great purchase. Also, I went from a touch to an iphone and there is a massive difference, with the phone being connected everywhere.

So my recommendations.. Go Hero over Blackberry. Don't hate on the iphone!..

I'd have to disagree.

The web-browsing is on par with Opera and Skyfire allows flash support.

The music player is as good.

Video support is as good.

Social networking is better integrated on the HD2.

Photo taking and viewing is better on the HD2.

Google Maps is as good on both phones.

iPhone has a much better selection of Apps and iTunes support is good.

The HD2 looks better (in my opinion) - there's a lot of wasted space below and above the (smaller) screen on the iPhone.

I agree it was top gadget - a year ago.

Without the iPhone you don't have the HD2, Hero, Storm etc.

It changed the mobile industry - but I just think it needs updating in both the hardware ad software aspects and that won't happen until July.

I've got to agree with the above.
Not to mention the fact that the phone just looks a lot nicer and webpages appear nicer, bigger and readable on the huge screen.

its tempting but bare in mind that android itself isnt that great an interface. the best thing about HTC android phones is the extra layer, the Sense UI, they put over it that makes it work a million times better!

Definitely wait and have a look at the reviews but i'd be very surprised if it was any better than the hero, yet alone the HD2.
