Massively overrated.

You can say that but it would be viewed as a stupid comment when you consider them Millions upon millions of albums they have sold world wide.

If they are overrated then I would like to see how many albums a good band would sell.

Oops offended the 40+ year old members it seems.

Nuts- Spice girls sold millions and millions worldwide, they must be awesome right...

Sorta agree, but Comfortably Numb has one of the greatest guitar solos of all time. Wish You Were Here is good too.

The rest of it just leaves me a bit cold. Like Radiohead.

Yeah I'm the same, they have some good songs and aren't bad by any stretch, just not deserving of the adulation they get from some quarters. A bit like Radiohead too.

Is this an actual Pink Floyd tour, or are you referring to the Roger Waters "The Wall" tour during which David Gilmour 'might' make an appearance?

Chief, I bet you Pink Floyd would attract a bigger worldwide audience than Take that & Spice girls put together.

This is true. However, I cant think of a more iconic album than the one mentioned. (The wall also massively outsold those so called super bands also.

So Take That aside, who do you like Chiefy?

I think what it says is that your point that TT or SG are Massive just like Pink Floyd is a pointless post & also very wide of the mark.

BTW: I'm not a Floyd fan & would also not go & watch them, but trust me when I say these tickets will be on ebay soon at £1,000 each.

If it's one gig you have no chance of seeing them.

You made the initial pointless post in equating records sold to quality of music, I just went with the obvious counter.

they wont be 1k each-its not a pink floyd reunion! Its roger waters performing the wall, and gilmour possibly playing ONE SONG! A pink floyd reunion gig may be slightly tricky given that richard wright died of cancer in 2008!

Is it true that the Floyd are bringing out a new album influenced by their travels in Scotland?

The Dark Side of Dunoon?

I'm 45 and used to love Floyd....they where defiantly my favourite chill music when getting wrecked with my mates in younger days before thew rave scene and occasionally through my life still. But times change and if I was offered floyd or pendulum I'd take the pendulum as it would float my current boat more. Floyd will always be in my top 3 favorite bands though, just because of all the great memories that go with them...Pengulum like the great leftfield will be consigned to the lower top 10 along with the Ozric Tentacles.

The rave and dance scenes certainly reformatted how to get hi to music.

Not in the UK it isn't, and doesn't. DSOTM is up there in UK sales with the likes of Shania Twain and James Blunt (in good company?...)

Some interesting Wiki reading on Dark side of the moon sales

The Dark Side of the Moon became one of the best-selling albums of all time,[81] (not counting compilations and various artists soundtracks), and is in the top 25 of a list of best selling albums in the United States.[47][82] Although it held the number one spot in the US for only a week, it remained in the Billboard album chart for 741 weeks.[83] The album re-appeared on the Billboard charts with the introduction of the Top Pop Catalog Albums chart in May 1991, and has been a perennial feature since then.[84] In the UK it is the sixth-best-selling album of all time.[85]

... I think that when it was finished, everyone thought it was the best thing we'd ever done to date, and everyone was very pleased with it, but there's no way that anyone felt it was five times as good as Meddle, or eight times as good as Atom Heart Mother, or the sort of figures that it has in fact sold. It was ... not only about being a good album but also about being in the right place at the right time.

“”–Nick Mason[70]In the US the LP was released before the introduction of platinum awards on 1 January 1976. It therefore held only a gold disc until 16 February 1990, when it was certified 11× platinum. On 4 June 1998 the Recording Industry Association of America (RIAA) certified the album 15× platinum,[47] denoting sales of fifteen million in the United States—making it their biggest-selling work there (The Wall is 23× platinum, but as a double album this signifies sales of 11.5 million).[86] "Money" has sold well as a single, and as with "Time", remains a radio favourite; in the US, for the year ending 20 April 2005, "Time" was played on 13,723 occasions, and "Money" on 13,731 occasions.[nb 9] Industry sources suggest that worldwide sales of the album total about 45 million.[87] "On a slow week" between 8,000 and 9,000 copies are sold,[81] and a total of 400,000 were sold in 2002, making it the 200th-best-selling album of that year—nearly three decades after its initial release. According to a 2 August 2006 Wall Street Journal article, although the album was released in 1973, it has sold 7.7 million copies since 1991 in the US alone.[88] To this day, it occupies a prominent spot on Billboard's Pop Catalogue Chart. It reached number one when the 2003 hybrid CD/SACD edition was released and sold 800,000 copies in the US.[47] On the week of 5 May 2006 The Dark Side of the Moon achieved a combined total of 1,500 weeks on the Billboard 200 and Pop Catalogue charts.[60] One in every fourteen people in the US under the age of 50 is estimated to own, or to have owned, a copy

Yes, of course, but its also very relevant; especially when you bring the likes of U2, Queen and particularly Take That into the figures. Take the UK market out of the worldwide figures and you'll find the DSOTM is outsold by the glorious delights of Whitney Houston's album and the Dirty Dancing soundtrack (still in good company?...)

Each to their own, there is no definitive answer about whether they are great or not just a personal choice. I too find them a tad boring but I guess in the days of being stoned whilst listening to them they probably did the trick. A few great singles but would skip most of their stuff it came up on my ipod.

So your saying Pink Floyd are a small band or that many of the Millions that like them don't understand music like you do ?
