Pioneer HTP-071 - Playing sound from TV's built-in Freeview HD.

radiocafradiocaf

I am having a bit of trouble with the Pioneer HTP-071. Now I am impressed, thus-far, from the sound quality I got from my PS3, but was unable to get any sound from the TV using an Optical cable.

I don't know if I was doing anything wrong or I just had the volume too low, but I couldn't hear a single thing and was completely unsure what input to set the A/V Receiver to.

Can anyone suggest what I am doing wrongly?

Some TV's need the internal speakers turning off via the menu to enable the audio to be routed via the optical cable.

By the looks of it you could be on to something there, I will give it a try, but I found menu settings asking if I wanted to use TV Speaker or External Speaker, and then I found a menu option asking what format I would like SPDIF (optical) output in (PCM/DD) and an adjustment for Audio Lag.
