the one who threw the punch plead guilty and gave evidence against his co accused, that's why he got less.

Read it.. Disgusting should have been a minimum of 13.5 large each without early release.

Yeah I had to read it twice.

The first guy (who threw the punch) plead guilty whereas the second guy didn't hence the difference in sentencing.
You could imagine the second guy thought he'd get a much more lenient sentence hence the gasps in the courtroom when his sentence was revealed.

Still not enough time for both cowards.

What's with all this 'concurrent' sentencing? What's the feckin point? You might as well just let them off.

Mind you, if they were sentenced properly for just the manslaughter conviction then it would be irrelevant. The maximum sentence for manslaughter is life imprisonment. Why weren't they given life? Especially given that they both have previous convictions for violence.

Our justice system is a complete joke, along with the completely out of touch judges who administer it.

None. Its a load of ****

The sentences should have been consecutive, that would have made the total 32.5 years.
Concurrent sentencing is a ridiculous idea; if a person commits two crimes at the same time then they should serve both sentences, one after the other.

i think it falls under "joint enterprise" both involved in the murder even though only one threw the punch, but the one who pleads guilty gets less.
the defence for the one who plead not guilty most probably tried their luck to get him off.
but he got more for not pleading guilty in the first place.
I haven't read enough about the case to know the ins and outs.
as for the sentences, they will both be out in about 5 years,
make your own mind up if it is long enough,
if their sentences go up you have to then have longer sentences for different degrees of manslaughter, they didn't intend to kill him, they threw one punch, should they get for example longer than the lorry driver who killed 4 people while looking at his phone a few weeks ago.

I know someone who was repeatedly assaulted at various times. The perpetrator got found guilt of 3 counts of assault at 6 months each, so 18 months, then served concurrently, so down to 6 months then the standard only serving half. So from an 18 month sentence they served 3 months.

The system is broken beyond repair.

this happened the other week in Rotherham when 8 pedophiles got sentenced,
one of them was already doing time and just got a sentence to run concurrently to what he was already locked up for.

Yeah, it's not straight forward. For example, take a car thief who gets caught, and then subsequently owns up to ten other car thefts (it's a maximum 10 years in prison), as they often do. Nobody would expect those sentences to be applied consecutively, meaning 110 years in prison. But 1 x manslaughter and 1 x robbery? They are both serious offences and the sentences should be consecutive. It just needs some common sense being applied when sentencing.

the one with the shorter sentence who threw the punch gave evidence against his mate so I wouldn't want to be him,

i would think it happens a lot more than it gets publicised,
we seemed to have a few in succession in west Yorkshire, where people had been punched, banged their head and died.

The problem with todays prison system is that they'll get to watch all those premium tv shows you and I have to pay for, whilst getting 3 square meals a day that some of us struggle to get, whilst they enjoy their free gym access which we have to pay for, whilst they can still smoke some good weed or spice or even crack and after completing their "sentence" they will come out into civvy street and be offered all the support and housing needs whilst those that are homeless and begging only get the one daily hot food provided by that charity

Sometimes I feel I will have a better life with more support and less stress/burden if I became the next Reggie Kray

I can see the marketing department at Pizza Hut getting in a whirl about this.
"Pizza so good it's worth killing for and doing hard time".
This is meant only as a dig at marketing droids for which I point you to comedian Bill Hicks and his anti-marketing skit:
