If you are looking at buying a 42" screen then plasma is probably the way to go. 37" or less then probably LCD. LCD is better in bright locations, eg conservatory/ kitchen. Plasma better in living room. Plasma will have richer colours, blacker blacks. LCDs also prone to image blur, with fast moving images. Screen burn was an issue with plasmas but not with newer models.

The best plasma in the £1000 price range is probably the Panasonic 42PX60. Not sure about tyour samsung without the model number.

If you have the model number then go to AVforums, and there will be a thread on owner feedback about the screen.

If you read a bit more on AVforums you will find plenty of discussion re Plasma v LCD.

I'm under the understanding that plasma screens only last like 3000hrs? I could be wrong but i'm sure thats what ~I've been told, bit like the bulbs with projector screens, you need to replace them. So if I'm rioght I'd go with LCD cheaper in long run and still a nice pic

That is incorrect, plasmas and LCDs last the same length of time, approx 30,000 hours, same as CRT. Although Panasonic are claiming 60,000 hours for there new ones.

Seriously do some more research before making a purchase, ask on AVforums, where the experts are.

Can certainly recommend Panasonic for plasma screens, they produce beautiful pictures. But if you're spending almost £1000, you'll want to do your own research and avforums is a wealth of information.

I'd also recommend seeing the screen yourself, not only with the source the shop is showing, but if you can manage it, your own source, e.g. hd dvd player with a dvd of some dark and light scenes, Lord of the Rings is an excellent choice.
