Hi Guys

Right I'm on the search for a TV
as per this thread

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/570783/want-a-tv

For my use what do I want? A Plasma or LCD?

I'll be using it for gaming, 360/ps3, dvd's, blurays etc, and general tv watching.

a min of 42" to a max of 46"

Regards

LCD. Doesn't have screen burn. Isn't as energy wasteful and has crisper colours.

The purists will always say plasma

In saying that though, having spent the last few days going into various stores both large and independent, and also convinced it was going to be plasma we wanted,my mind has now changed.

I think you need to go and look for yourself as we all see things differently. In the Panasonic dealer near to me the tv looked fab in HD,I won't deny, but SD looked very disappointing. My mum has a plasma and tbh I thought it was just her model that was a bit ,well,meh....but maybe it's just me/us.

It may well be different for you......each technology has it's strength and weaknesses. You will probably get more for your money with plasma though.:)

Thanks for your replies.
I thought the plasma's have a higher hz and contrast ratio?
Clearer picture?

Plasma. Doesn't develop dead pixels and has brighter colours/better contrast  I don't think new plasmas are that bad on power either tbh.

If most of the source material is HD though it doesn't matter what you buy but I find SD stuff on an LCD (even small screens) looks VERY blocky and watery around the edges. Plasma doesn't seem to be so bad as the pixels don't tend to be on a square matrix, more like a brick wall offset layout.

As an unknowledgeable person I think lcd is better suited for games.

This is cheeky, but are there any deals on here or other sites? That are a cracker, as to be honest I would order tonight providing there is a great tv at a good price.

And it's got a built in Divx/Xvid player for all those downloaded films:whistling:

Well anyway, nothing will beat OLED TV's when they are finally produced in big sizes.
1,000,000:1 contrast ratios etc will blow your mind.

LG Plasma : Contrast Ratio 2,000,000:1 :whistling: (not that I actually believe that...)

I agree though, they do give a much brighter more colourful picture. Like everything 'new' though, price is the killing point at the moment :)

sensible answers about plasma TVs!

I spend all day convincing Currys customers that Plasma TVs do not:

Give you AIDS
leak gas
need gas refilling
'go off' after 2 years
need the colour reboosting after 3 years
too heavy (never understood this)
no good for gaming
too power hungry (infact the PSU in a plasma is probs less than the one in your desktop PC)

I'm leaning towards a plasma.

It has to be FULL HD
It has to be 42" minimum.
I suppose i didnt mention full HD.

I dont quite understand all the hd stuff, but it needs to be the full shizzle, no half job harrys.

Let me know :)

New ones aren't that much heavier than LCD's but the older ones, proper gut busters

Plasma,

LCD TV's are nowhere near as good, they are OK up to 32" screen size, anything over, Plasma rules.;-)

But they're a pain if you want to stick them on a wall. All the more so if you live in a new build ricepaper house ;-)

No point in rushing into it - they wont even start to process your order till Monday and most big chains have said they will absorb the VAT increase (for now) take your time and go visit a few shops and see what YOU like
