Plasma versus LCD versus LED

Plasma 100,000hrs (contrast ratio of 2,000,000:1)
LCD 60,000hrs (80,000:1)
LED 30,000hrs (contrast 3,000,000:1)

Which do you buy? Just looking at some LG TV's expected life span average

Just got an LG 42PQ6000. LED does look nice though.

LED = LCD as its just a different way of backlighting unless you go for a high end full LED panel

Dont they say go for plasma if its over a 37" screen?

The picture quality on a LED is far supierier than a plasma....The picture is so life like almost as if you can touch it and grabb what u are watching.... Our local currys had a display of plasma, lcd, led on the wall one above the other and the LED was at the top....You certainly could tell the differance... Thats why Im considering putting a 46" LED in place of my 50" Plasma.. because im sick of the images still on screen for ages from the banners & logos on music channels on sky tv for ages after i turn it over to another channel.

That's not an LED TV, you fell for the marketing crap. This is the only LED TV out:
http://www.sony.co.uk/product/tvp-oled-tv/xel-1

It costs about £5000 for a 11" screen last time I looked.

Whats this then?

EDIT: now realise LED is just backlit LCD so its a big marketing con at the moment.

OLED is the next big thing but some years until most of us will be able to afford one.

I'd opt for PLASMA everytime over LCD

I bet that looks amazing :w00t:

Are Samsung in a court battle over "LED" tvs only being LED backlit LCD screens or have i heard wrong?

that OLED total diff technology

sony have the x series which is a full LED panel prices are about 3 grand for 46 inch and about 4 for 55 inch its their flagship model.

I think sharp are bringing a full LED panel out also.

Samsung have confused the market with the new LED tvs they are just a new way of lighting an LCD panel, yes they have very bright colours and contrast, but normally they cant disperse the light as well as CCFL (think thats what the tubes are called on LCD).

i heard they were gettin done for false advertising

I think its funny when you actually read up about the how they come up with the stats about contrast ratios, etc and how much the human eye can actually see its truly wasteful.

might as well just get a plasma and wait a few more years for the LED technology to improve and lower in price...

mind you I was in M&S the other week and they had this...PHILIPS 56PFL9954 56 inch 21:9 Cinema LCD TV 1080p HD Ready Freeview.

QFT. Till then plasma is still the winner as there's not that much in it apart from price although LED backlighting really does bring out the colours.

think its a grey area

like panasonic 600hz advert with the tennis ball etc gearing everthing towards it being related to motion but the sub field driving is to do with brightness no where was that mentioned, its all about number and its seen as bigger is better but a lot of the time the consumer doesnt know what the numbers are and think they are gettin a good deal.

Best advice is to check the tv you want to get by going instore and physically looking at tv, HD on it etc end of the day you will be the person watchin it, if you like the picture on it go for it

cba to click it lol just sayin that with the samsung LED business and Panasonics 600hz they just market there products in a slightly grey area as it seems sometimes they dont fully explain it to consumers so you assume the tv has certain features etc

The Sony 46" has dropped a lot in price lately £1399 with free 3 year warranty...

And as for LED backlight being the same as LCD, just go into any Comet or Currys and compare the two side by side, you'll see any of the Samsung series are miles better than any plasma or lcd on display!

Although there will be 3D compatible LED tv's coming out later this year :)
