I use the term 'packaging' begrudgingly as it really did nothing to protect the goods that they continue to send me.

If enough people get on board and agree to send them an email asking for better packaging maybe they'll start??

Join me in sending them a snottogram expressing how there muct be other ways of sending stuff (HMV.com seem to get it spot on so why are Play.com so appalling)

copy and paste your email and we'll send it on mass I'm sure...I predict a riot!

a selection of various emails (not abusive but not too soft) posted here would help then we could decide on the best one to send off.

What's wrong with their packaging? they have been fine for me every time, and they never charge for packaging on anything so thats a benefit. if they damage anything then you can get a replacement

I got 3 dvds delivered today, one was in a padded envelope which was torn along two edges (how the case didnt drop out i will never know).
The other two were in the slightly thick brown paper packaging that opens up to be like a cross shape - no protection offered as both the dvd cases were crushed on the bottom.
Its not the postman playing football with my stuff as all my HMV and Amazon packages turn up in pristine condition with no damage at all.
Play.com must spend a fortune on replacement stock for damaged returns etc. Surely it'd be in theirs and our benefit to spend a bit more on packaging that protects stuff properly.

Play.com packaging has been terrible lately, without exception. The only materials they have been using are plastic mailing bags, with the item, whatever it may be, left to battle with our less than fantastic postal system without any proper protection. They need to sort it out.

Next Play item I get, I will take a couple of pics on opening, and write a snotty email.

got a t shirt the other day... came in a HUGE cardboard box. The amount of boxes and card they must waste is amazing. Take a look at amazon and HMV play.com!

Are you guys talking about this kind of packaging? http://www.recyclethis.co.uk/wp-content/uploads/2007/03/padded_envelope250.jpg

Why not just send back and get a replacement if it is damaged?

If it isnt damaged then stop complaining because people like you will force play.com to start charging for packaging and therfore prices will get increased.

yeah its ok to have to post your item back and get a replacement weeks later in possibly the same state :whistling:

You ever returned something to play? they are very helpful, in fact i think they refunded my postage as well when i returned an item not because it was damaged just because i wasnt happy and want a refund.

If its the same packaging you are talking about like the image in my previous post, then this type of packaging is the best way of sending CD's or DVD's, it's easy to pack and offers good protection. almost every seller would use that kind of packaging, how would you like them to send it you? in a steel box?

Your point makes no sense mate, Play.com and HMV dont charge for packaging.
HMV use a slightly rigid box thing which i have never received a damaged item from...
Play use a variety of types of packaging, some types work and some really dont.

Two huge companies, both offering competitive prices, one gets the packaging right and the other seems to get it wrong a lot.
#14
Amazon's packaging (also free if over a fiver) is similar to HMV in that it's a rigid cardboard structure - I haven't bought from Play in a few weeks but if I receive damaged goods from them when others are offering similar prices with better packaging I'll be going elsewhere. Play's return procedure even when it's entirely their fault (such as sending out the wrong item) can be a joke.

Well let me ask you this, when you purchase an item from an online retailer you are taking a massive risk on the item getting lost in post so surely if you wanted the item that swiftly and efficiently you would you not go pick it up from the shop/alternative local retailer yourself?

been using Play since '99...over 500 items bought NOT including Playtrade...never had a probem and the best CS I have ever dealt with

I have had numerous CDs and DVD's turn up with the standard packaging this week inc Dexter Season 1 and Zodiac director cut from the April Fool 1 day sale which turned up today...both packed as per all other items I have bought off them before so I totally disagree with your statement

not had a single item damaged due to packaging. All times have been due to RM...crushed items (inc one with tyre marks still on!) and a special delivery which had blatantly been dropped

Yes finally, someone on my side. I also have never had a problem, its guys like us that are gonna suffer when clowns complain and FORCE (this should spark a nice argument) them to start charging for P&P.

It's not a 'massive risk' at all unless the area you're living in is served by particularly dodgy posties, I haven't had a single item not turn up from Play in the years I've used them. I don't buy from Play or any similar retailers because I want the item swiftly as Play's delivery times are hardly rapid - I buy from them because of their price and it's reasonable for them to use suitable packaging for the item to survive the post. Some items are going to go missing, some items are going to get damaged no matter how good the packaging is but in most cases the item should arrive and in one piece. If a company starts using packaging which simply isn't up to the job then it's understandable that people aren't happy.

As for customer services I find Play poor, they've made a few mistakes sending the wrong item and getting the replacement is extremely slow - after getting the return authorised and sent back it can be two to three weeks before getting the actual item. Getting your postage refunded is something of a lottery as well, given the fault lies entirely with Play I'd expect them to make more effort to get it sorted but sadly not.

its not about sides - obviously some get good packaging and some dont
noone is being forced to do anything - only being asked for a bit of consistency.
if other retailers and even play themselves (usually) can manage it why cant they bother doing it all the time?

Not really, i shop on the net as its normally cheaper. if its available online for the right price i'll buy it regardless of when it'll get to me.
There is no real risk involved when buying items from large companies on the internet as both parties are covered by guarantees, i know if it doesnt turn up i can email them and receive a refund or replacement.

**None of this has much at all to do with the packaging issue originally raised by the way**

I think you guys are just having bad luck. seeing as ODB having 500+ orders being fine and me having about 150-200 orders with only one problem. either bad luck or the post service
actually i think Play.com's delivery service is better than HMV seeing as the recent DVD's i have received from HMV have come in a cardboard box with no protection inside and Play's orders coming in bubble-wrapped envelopes.
If the delivery service is not up to your standards then simply don't shop there, just shop at one of the other alternatives

Dont really know what you want me to say to that, you've taken and used something completely out of context and the original opening thread was about Plays packaging problems and not about the risks attributed to internet shopping and time scales for delivery.

This is a non-issue.

never had a packaging problem either, when I have had multiple orders all delivered on the same day they have been individually packaged in jiffys and in excellent condition
#32
To be fair to the OP i would say Play seem to have had the worst packaging of all of the big stores ive used online.
Single Dvds seem to be ok but ive stopped buying box sets because the cases seem to always arrive snapped and cracked.

Everything bigger than DVD i've ordered from Play has always come in a filled cardboard box big enough to move a small family of homeless people in.

Everything I order from them comes in those boxes... And then I have to vist the sortimg office cause it won't fit through the letter box! I ordered a Micro SD card that came in one of those last week...

That's what I thought this thread was about - the waste of packaging! :-D
