Play.com - rant alert - [edit] Came good :-)

I made the mistake of ordering a Christmas present from play.com on the 8th.

Despite all Christmas advertising and saying deliveries will take "2-7" days and the item being dispatched on the 9th it hasn't appeared.

I have spoken to them and they say they "can't do anything until the 30th" and suggested I order another one! Not likely...

So... I've paid my money, I've no present to show and there's nothing I can do until five days after Christmas. SURELY that can't be right???

And breathe...

Same things happened to me.

Check the delivery terms and conditions on the help page

"Please note that we will need to wait 21 Days from dispatch before we can investigate the non-arrival of an item."

This is their all year round standard policy. The fault lies with the postal service for failing to deliver your item, not with Play. The timing is obviously inconvenient however it's always a risk when buying something on'tinternet.

Same thing happened to me...I ordered an ipod dock in November as a bday present. The tracking said it had been delivered and signed for by me...thing was I was at work 60miles away! I had to send a form to them with my signature to prove it wasn't me who signed for it...load of rubbish...replacement arrived yesterday...over a month late...it is now a christmas present!

Oh, I've read all that now! I just think it stinks that it says much more prominently:
Christmas Delivery Information

We'll be working hard to make sure you receive your order on time. Post can take a little longer at Christmas so we do recommend that you allow a little extra time of between 2 and 7 days for delivery.

Same with me as well, im waiting for a Christmas present to come and can't enquire about it until the 31st! Its rather annoying as my OH bought ( what seems like ) the whole of play! and hers have shown up straight away!
#8
Never had that problem with amazon, they sent a replacement out within 7 days of the day it was first due to arrive!
#9
my order arrived ok hehe
#10
Even MORE annoying, my colleague ordered the same item within minutes and his turned up within 48 hours. Grrrrr....

You might want to direct your anger at the Post Office rather than Play. The Royal Mail goes from bad to worse at this time of year, but you can hardly blame Play for that. Once it has been dispatched there's not a lot Play (or any other online retailer) can do. 21 days is a fairly standard waiting period, this is to make sure it's not just delayed in the post (as is very common at this time of year) rather than lost, I think it also has something to do with the period Royal Mail use to class an item as lost (although I'm not 100% on that).

I've never had any trouble with Play whatsoever!

Fair comment, I've checked with RM and it's not regarded as "lost" until fifteen working days after dispatch, or 2 January in this case. That does seems an inordinately long amount of time for a service which delivers (IIRC) over 90% of items next day.

lol...It does some good to get these things off your chest and have a rant! Good for you OP. I hope you give them as much grief as its casuing you. Totally understandable, worst time of year to have somethin like that happen to you. Frustrating, P'd off....

Have a coffee and relax tho, dont let it get to you.

Oh dear.............I'm waiting for 3 DVDs to arrived which I've had e-mails for saying they have been dispatched, but I have to add I have never had any problems what so ever with play in the past, so it's fingers crossed ! :santa:
