Play.com "Temporarily out of stock"

I've made an order on play.com for something that's temporarily out of stock. It says that the order will be dispatched as soon as it arrives. Does anyone have any experience of how reliable they are with out of stock items? It's something that I want for a Christmas present, so I'm continuing the search elsewhere just in case, but wondered if they are known for taking orders for out of stock items, and then cancelling them at a later date because they can't supply. Thanks! :thumbsup:

I would say that they are usually good at getting items

I have had an order on 'awaiting stock' since last october - but this is an item I havent seen anywhere else, and is the only time this has happened to me with play.com

Just as Kelly says, they're usually pretty good. :)
You can always ring them and ask them what the chances are of stock before Christmas.
Their customer services I have always found to be pretty good. :)

Cool - thanks for your responses. I've realised that Christmas is creeping up fast, but the stubborn side of me still wants to get the cheapest deal!

Might have to actually pick up the phone! and find out - phone calls are just soooo inconvenient! :whistling:

If it is popular then you should be okay - although play have a nasty habit of marking discontinued items as "temp out of stock" and then cancelling a few months later.

My experience is the opposite, had 4 items go to 'awaiting stock' (after I have ordered them, when they were showing as in stock!) - it annoys me that they don't even send an email to let you know, and they take your money right away! Gave up on 3 of them after a few months and one is still 'awaiting stock' but I only placed that about 2 weeks ago.

When Play get stock, their site updates to show stock temporarily, even if they have more orders than received stock.

Just give them a phone call mate, their customer service staff are english and quite helpful, they will answer your question full on and then you know either way rather than ummming and arrring and wondering if it will come in and be delivered before Christmas.

As stated above, if it is as popular item then they could refill every few days knowing the supply is good,if it is not so popular but has sold quite reasonable over the last year then they could be awaiting response from the supplier and chances are it will not be stocked before Christmas.

Please please just give them a quick call and ask them exactly what you asked on this forum, they don't bite!!!

Might be worth phoning them as I did once, when a jacket that i wanted was reduced in price but showed as not having any size large, i phoned up and asked if they had any and the guy basically looked and said "sure how many do you want" might've been lucky, but always worth a shot:thumbsup:

yer ive had a spiderman print and something for my sister on order for about 2weeks anf still says temp out of stock and awaiting stock
