Hey, I have just brought a new vga to vga cable (both male from what i have read online) so that I can connect my laptop to my tv (which is also only a few months old so has all the right sockets and things). But when the cable is plugged into the tv, regardless of being plugged into my laptop or not, will not work. It doesn't do anything. Its as if it isn't even plugged into the mains. Nothing else works on it, eg Sky or my dvd player and everything has to be reset when the VGA cable is removed from the tv.

The tv is a Logik HD ready 1080p. I have no idea what any of this means but I'm pretty sure it should at least turn on so that an error message can show or something!

Please help someone as I have been trying to fix this all day!

choose PC/VGA on TV menu and press the key on laptop that will switch between laptop LCD screen and external monitor as well as setting the output maybe from your gfx card sofware/driver

Right click on your desktop and select properties.
Look in there for a setting to allow your laptop to output a signal.

This is the cable I brought. I have tried the FN and F5 key but all bar one does nothing and the last option freezes my computer. Nothing happens on my tv at all when the cable is in so I can't select pc/vga.

Ok, how would I change the setting to allow it to output? I'm not that great with computers, sorry!

try fn on your keyboard along with one of the f1-12 keys that look like a monitor it will then output the signal

I have tried this. On my computer its the f5 key. It doesn't do anything. The tv still will not even turn on.

is the tv not actually on at all or does it switch off when you plug in the cable or does it appear like it has turned off

also when you plug it in to the tv does your laptop still work on its own screen?
because it sounds like you need to detect the monitor on windows 7 to do this right click on the desktop in an empty area then select personalise then bootom of the pop up window select display next window select in the top left adjust resolution do this with the cable pluged into your tv then press detect should then detect your tv and you should be able to do the fn and f5 thing hope this helps.

yes, it works perfectly until you plug in the vga cable in then the tv, then it goes blank and not even a standby button is alight.

Yes the laptop still works.

I haven't tried this yet but will it still apply to vista?

I have previously tried to change the resoltuion but the tv still remains dead. I have tried every resolution possible.

I have also used the "Windows mobility center" option of external display. Which gives me the three different options of display on the tv but just doesn't do anything. It says its connected.

Keep the cable - and buy a new laptop and TV

op, you need to manually select pc input within the tv menu

some tvs do not automatically show the laptop screen normally theres a button on the remote control to activate the connection

its not the simple case of just connecting cables

But the screen doesnt show when the cables are connected. Its black and the standby button is off. This happens as soon as the cable is connected. There is no way to select the laptop option as you cant see it. Thank you for your help though!

I have connected everything up and it says its connected to external monitor, and my mouse even disappears when you move to the right hand side of the screen, but still no picture on anything, no standby light, on the tv! Its like it just dies the minute the cable is connected.
