Hi i know points on a licence are only valid for 3 years but come off after 4 but what happens if a driver who has only been driving for 6 months(after passing) and had 3 points on his provisional licence but were from over 3 years ago would it still be a automatic ban, retake test etc?i ask as the original 3 points would no longer be valid due to being over 3 years old.

sorry if i havent worded it correctly but just somthing i would liek to get to the bottom off.

thanks

I would of thought as the points are now expired then it'll be a clean slate.

If you got the points 3 years ago, they will be wiped off.

As I said in your original thread how did they get the original 3 points if they wasn't driving? Driving with no license = no insurance is 6 points. I would have thought the points would only start when a full license was obtained.

okay this is what you want to hear

"Penalty points gained before passing your driving test

Any penalty points you gain before passing your first driving test are taken into account. However, having six or more doesn’t mean your licence will be revoked straight after you pass your test.

Gaining further points after passing your test, taking your total to six or more, will mean your licence will be revoked."

so your friend is fine

deleted that post read the one above yours, its 12 points within 3 years that would lead to a disqualification but the points stay on your license

Yeah I misread it, I'm going to say when the 3 years from the original offence are up they will be fine

Might want to check the exact date of the offence and the exact date of the possible camera flash make sure it's 3+ yrs to sleep at night

the original offence was january 28th 2006 which was then a holder of just the provisional licence

still confuses as people are saying although my friend got the points when they had a provisional the 4 years will start all over again once they got there full licence, date of offence showing the licence now is 31/1/2006 so wouldnt it just be 4 years from that date?

thanks
