Becoming a special is a great way to gain experience and knowledge about the police force and very often acts as a door opener to the paid version of the job, go for it!!
#2
I got my day 1 interview next week. Am really looking forward to it.

I'm waiting for Cambridgeshire Constabulary to hire again, I applied last year but didn't pass so going to apply again :-D

Yup. How was your Day 1 interview? Was it at Hendon?

Hobby Bobbys? Plastic pigs? wannabe's who cant make the grade for the real deal, they all remind me of that "special" kid all schools have and want the power they think the uniform gives them
#7
Is this an England only thing? Ive never seen a special constable in Scotland? Im not very observant tho!
banned#8
Theres always PCSO for when the police are too scared to patrol certain areas

Actually mate, special constables have all the power of a regular officer, just don't get paid for it. Get your facts straight .

Well to be fair mate the mets stopped recruiting police officers externally until 2012 so theres no way to get in unless like me you already have your papers in internally just waiting for day one assessment

Specials are good BUT i find they arent respected in the police force by officers ( less than PCSO'S) and your working 25hrs a month for free and taking all that grief so for that reason i think they have to be admired as its no longer the fast way into the police force and quite a noble thing to pay back to do for your country

It was a long day but not as bad as I expected, I think they have changed it since I did mine and you don't have to do roleplays anymore?

No more roleplay, but I have heard that they have put more emphasis on the interview which has now been extended to around 40-50 minutes.

role plays are still there along with maths and english exam and the medical but thats for police officer

Im a PCSO in the met as well almost 2 years in now but its a good way to decide if you want to become a full copper not just the joke of the country that gets all the abuse and cant do anything about it apart from calling the big boys and doing them under section 5 - JUSTICE :whistling:

Where would a degree in ICT get you in the police force? I am either gonna try and go for that, or just a bank! Dunno what else i can do with an IT degree that will pay decently.

Errrr get your facts right mate - they didnt even see the boy in the lake so why would they jump in they called emergency services - they arrived after the boy had gone under and its a big ******* lake and they didnt know where he had drowned - anyways training is taught not to dive in as the person struggling will pull you under - why would you put yourself at risk when you dont even know whats happened - Another media story you public didnt bother to read

I'd do the same BUT it all depends the person and they shouldnt be looked down upon because they didnt jump in

Red mist and all that

Again PCSO's

A special constable is the same as a 'real police officer' with the same powers of arrest they just do it voluntary in their own time which to me means they deserve our support more than someone who gets paid £30k to do the same job.

Actually, Spl Constables are held in higher regard than these useless "community officers" who I think now deserve your remarks!

After seeing the unedited footage my mate shot in a large northern city for one of those cops with cameras type shows, they have my respect.

How they didnt clump the aggressors in the video I really dont know, even with savage provocation, My mate even offered to turn off the cameras so they could give one nasty drunk a kicking and they didnt.

I could only do that job is they gave me a glock 23 as part of the uniform.

Dont get me started on them, the one we have gets bullied by local kids ( I am not kidding) - seriously he is a waste of money and resources, he's a visible presence but even those cardboard cut outs have more use than ours. My mates dad is a special though and he's been doing it well over 20 years so respect to him for that.

I never said they didnt deserve respect especially the older ones who have been doing it years its the newer intake, they seem to have lowered the bar due to lower intakes.

hold on - some PCSO's are rubbish i will agree but to tarnish them all with the same brush is not really fair - jobs a job and i work as a PCSO and pay my taxes like everyone else so what makes you better than me and think you can look down on my profession that eans me £25000 a year rather than stuck on the dole like the scroats i deal with everyday on estates

On the many occasions I would have been working alone, except for the willingness of a special to team up with me, I have been saved many a kicking.
I have chased lads with machetes, had knives and screwdrivers pulled on me, gone to loads of fights that most of the people criticising specials on here wouldnt have the balls to go to. You guys do this for free
If you are joining the specials with the intention of joining the regulars, then good on you. If its a power thing, forget it, you are more trouble than I want to deal with.
From me as a regular front line police officer, I appreciate everything you do to help

Yep totally agree with you although theres a right bell at our local nick who runs a million pound company and drives in the yard in a audi r8 and ferrari f430 and he stuck on a bus driver the other day for stopping 10 metres from the bus stop on a double yellow - they call him speciall for a reason power tripping bell

Specials are great and for them to work the increased hours now i admire them even more

I can and do look down on "your proffession" because i don't see the point of the role.

It has no real power and you are reliant on Spls or Full time police to make arrests. Amirite?

I fail to see what "paying your taxes" has to do with it to be honest.

if that is correct you have to be mad
plus your saving the police authority paying someone to do a payed job
so really you are just stealing someone living/food out of there mouths
to make yourself feel good
its a sad situation
and no theredo not deserve our support
i would compare this to the brown shirts

I work on a team thats dedicated to policing the london transport system
i dont work on a safer neighbourhood team on a little ward on about 3 roads
I cover a whole borough and everyday i get thanks from MOP who are glad we are on the buses making sure they little chavs arent upstairs causing havoc and ruining peoples day
You opinion ( which you are entitled to ) means nothing to me as you dont know me or what i do all day and its disrespectful to cuss someones work when all they try to do is the best they can with the publics interest at heart

Pcso's are useful but it all depends on what they are used for - yes i have to call a Police officer for an arrest but they work on my team so i dont use up the resources on response or other units

The role isnt to arrest people it isnt to be a visible presence thats all

To be fair, we have some very good PCSO's on our patch,. However, they are woefully underutilised and dont seem to have clear direction on what is required from them.
Their powers are woeful, but if I need gen for a drugs warrant, it more often than not it comes from a PCSO

The idea of PCSO's in general, and this is not personal in any way, is flawed. We should be making up the difference and have them as regular police officers
