Poor download speeds

Hey, I'm unsure whats wrong here, i'm a member of a private torrent site and I'm getting poor download speeds on high ratio torrents ie 500/10...

i used to get download speeds of 500kb/s and up 30kb/s, now i'm lucky if i can push the 30kb/s on the download...

i did acquire a trojan cpl of weeks back, but i did a "fresh" install (used a recovery program, from before i got the infection)... internet explorer used to crash quite regularly because of it...

have i got to go down the sorry road of reinstalling again... I have AVG spyware installed and kaspersky antivirus...

haven't tampered with router settings at all, just mentioning just in case a reply is about my router (talkbox - orange)

any help appreciated...

want my tv downloads lol (heroes s02...)

Have you forwarded your ports? www.portforward.com

What client are you using?

Has your bandwith been throttled?

Just a few factors...

Sounds like it may be throttled or the torrent.

Try here for heroes s2:

make a free account and you can download it :)

is there a way to find out if the bandwidth has been throttled, doubt it has like i'm not a huge downloader, just take what i need then share it... i'm using utorrent and as for port forwardng, didn't really want to mess ith these settings because they were ok before the uninstall and aren't they stored within the router and not in the pc

Google for your internet speedtest to see what you're capable of downloading at the moment. EG, if your on a 2 meg line, and your test comes out at 500, you've been capped unfortunately...

have you tried the half open pipes thing for XP, if you are on XP?

1. Go to http://www.lvllord.de/
2. Click on Downloads.
3. Right-click the link (english or german) and click “Save Target As”.
4. Save it in your Desktop.
5. Open the file and run the program located inside the archive, agreeing to the security warning.
6. Some text should scroll by in a MS-DOS window, after it ends, type C.
7. Enter 50 for the number of concurrent half-open connections and press Enter.
8. Type Y and the file should be patched. Cancel any Windows XP warnings that should appear, it is part of Microsoft’s way of ensuring its files are not tampered with (the utility tempers them to break the limit on purpose).

Might help you :)

And whats your ISP package?
#10
What ISP are you with and do you know what speed it's meant to be. It appears to be 1mb.

Sounds like to me that you've been capped, or your comp is still ill im afraid. Anyone else on orange been capped?

You could try the speedtest again at stupid o clock as I believe they are capped at certain times?

#19

#20
It may be worth you looking at http://www.samknows.com/broadband/checker2.php
Enter your number and postcode and then click on "LLU xDSL" to see whats available on your line.

I can't get anything unfortunately, but am on an up to 8mb and can get a 350mb download of Heroes etc in about 8 minutes on usenet

that's about 1Mb download speed :(

I'd check that there is nothing wrong with the line, or that your profile with your ISP is not a tad mashed up.
#22
it is odd cos i've had up to 6+mb... go check the other pc... thats a bit of a hash job too but its browsable
#23
Also is it wired? Wireless router?

Check to security on your network, someone could be leeching off you.
#24
wireless... n don't think its been leeched...

4 devices on tthe list 2 unnamed which are secondry pc and ds and 2 named wii and this pc
