Hi just wondering if anyone out there has a knnowledge of nintendo wii problems,,,heres mine...When you put a game in it loads but before you can play it you get a message saying an error has occurred and to go through your wii instruction manual. Also, the only way you can turn it off is by unplugging it. Its been like that for a while now and i was trying to save the money to get it repaired but with christmas coming theres no chance of that happening any time soon..just need a lil bit of advice or something. Thanks

Usually happens when you've modded the Wii, and you try and play a game that needs newer files/firmware.

I've not done anything to the wii,and all my games are bought brand new from shop,it happend really suddenly and at first it was only one or two of the games,so i thought there may be some scratches or something on the specific games but then they all started to fail to load. I dont suppose you have any idea how much it'll cost me roughly to get it repaired do you?

How long have you had it?

I don't know how much it would cost to fix, but Nintendo will give you a free quote, and pay for the postage both ways.

Ages ago Nintendo said if you bought Super Smash Brothers and it came up with disc errors you could send them the wii and disc for a free replacement drive as that was the first game I believe the wii started using dual layers discs. I'm not sure if this is still applicable tho. Do all games not play or just the latest ones?

Hi Vix - mine conked out in exactly the same way last year. If it's still in warranty, then Nintendo will fix it for free. Mine was out of warranty, but they only charged £28. That was their fee for a minor repair back then. Not sure what it is now, but I bet it hasn't changed much. They had it for about a week and the price included delivery back to me...

Found some information for you:
http://www.nintendoservicecentre.co.uk/faqs.php
If you go to the second question then scroll down it has a section for the dual layer fault.
It states:
"This may result in a small percentage of consumers experiencing a disc read error when attempting to use these three specific games. Specifically, if the Wii console lens is in some way contaminated by environmental factors, such as dust, cigarette smoke or a fine film from air fresheners, to list just a few examples.

Please call one of our support staff, or use the Fast Track system to log your Wii and your game disc so they can both be sent to us, and we should be able to resolve this matter at no cost to you."

The uk office details are:
Nintendo U.K. (Codestorm)
0870 60 60 247 ( or 01753 483700 Found on saynoto0870 )

Be aware tho if you send it to them and it's not just dual layer games that don't work then they will probably charge you for a new laser. However if it's only dual layer games then you are in luck it seems :)
