I'm looking for a portable light/lamp to use in my loft. Can someone recommend one? Thanks in advance.

I'm using one similar to THIS at the moment.

Not as cheap as http://www.amazon.co.uk/LED-Worklight-Lamp-Emergency-Torch/dp/B001T3SK7W

But both are worth considering. Rated good for fishing so maybe you can find multi uses for them :)

We chucked on old table lamp into the attic and just run an extension cable to it when needed. I guess the one JonnyTwoToes found is only a tenner and looks much more robust so I would go for it if I was not such a tightwad

i wired up an old ceiling rose from the pound shop or wilkos (one of the two) and hooked it over the rafters and plug it in at the top of the stairs

LOL - bit over the top for a loft mate!

As someone else said get those battery powered LED ones - last for ages - Costco sell them as well.

Over the top? In what way? Surely not bad price though, £8.74 inc delivery.

400 watts over the top!

It's a loft not a football stadium!

Lamp on an extension!!

...that's a good idea actually. I've got an extension cable and I could take the shade off an old lamp. Doh sometimes I make things too complicated for myself :| It would save me money as I'm absolutely skint!

It's what we used to do in my childhood home and what I do in my home.

Yea I think this is the way to go. I'm a fellow tightwad...nothing to do with both being Scottish I hope!

Plus the power switch is in the safest place.

I thought everyone did this? Open the loft door, let extension cable drop to the floor.

I've got an LED one from Amazon, it's really bright and was a fiver.

They have it on offer every few weeks for £5.

If you have not boarded the loft, you would be better off tapping into the wiring for the lighting for upstairs.
