Possible Bet Slip Mix-Up...Will they still pay out??

Hi everyone.

I went into the bookies today and placed a bet for my mate who couldnt make it before the match on Gary Cahill to score first. (hes a Bolton fan) I wrote on the betslip '£10 Cahill to score first', and asked for the price as he wanted to know, but this was NOT put on the betslip.

They told me 6/1, however, as ive not found out now, this was not right as my mate wanted the bet on Gary Cahill who should have been more like 25/1!

Obviously the odds they quoted me were for Tim Cahill, which he didnt want to back.
Does anyone know how the bookie will handle this?

Gary Cahill has scored first!

Just to confirm...My betslip only says 'Cahill to score first'

Thanks in advance for any advice, or anyone who may know a bookie and can help!

Dunno if this is right but just read this out to hubby and he says they may split half the odds of both Cahills as a first name and price was not on the slip .
#2
as you have'nt specified which cahill it might be voided, but you should get your tenner back.

sorry about my first post read it wrong... so the bet says ''cahill to score first'' and doesnt qoute the odds or the first name?

Is your fella a bookie?
#7
lol, no but he may as well be the amount of times he is round there X).............his dad was though !

Ah i see.

usually the bookie will take your slip scan and simply check the first goalscorer, they wont go through the entire team list and you may get away with it. On the other hand, when they go to check the winning odds they may see both cahills and bet will be void i imagine and money returned.

The Bookie will split the bet & you will now have 2 x £5 bets. You will receive £130 for the £5 bet.

Im interested to know what will happen. It seems to be their mistake for accepting a bet which wasnt clear. I'd say try to get someone who isn't a manager, preferably not the same person as they told you 6/1.

I would have thought they will say its a void bet so £10 back but maybe if you persist
#11
They can't Void & will not Void this bet as they have the option to split the bet & this is what they will do unless the member of staff does it manually.
#12
I didnt understand tbh what he told me to type before ( dont know whether tou did ? ) but he has now put it simpilar.........The £10 stake will be split between both therefore £5 on each Cahill .

Yeah that seems fair seeing as they accepted the bet. good luck op
#14
lol, you beat me to it wheres my nuts at putting it simple :D
#15
Just to point out OP the £130 return is only if he's the 25/1 price you said.
#16
well i hope the majority of you are right, cos if its void bet my mate will be fuming!!
£130 is better than £10, even though it should have been more like £260!!

The right thing to do is cough up the rest yourself. It's only fair.

I dont know his exact price at the start, which is why i was asking in the shop, but for 'next goal' in-running he was between 20/1 and 28/1, depending which bookie u went to!

You may have a valid point here.OP did the m8 tell you to put the guys full name on the slip & take a price, because if he did then you will be in his bad books.
Also OP with your Username you should know how these bets work.

I have a feeling they can void the bet if they want to but think they will split the tenner over the 2 players as a goodwill gesture
#21
OP Cahill has not scored any goals in this game ? It's 1-0 Bolton but scorer is Z.Knight ?
#22
I was in a dash, just filled the slip out quick.
I do know what im doing normally but this situation has never come up before!

They can't Void the bet. It's like doing a horse & putting number 1 on the slip but it also looks like a 7,so they just split the bet.

How can you be so sure about that?
I can assure you they can void the bet if they want. They can void any bet if theres a chance it could be written out wrong.
Which bookies is it OP? They may split it but I wouldn't start kicking off if they give you a tenner, just ask for the rule it was voided under.

I'm actually nipping round William Hills in a sec, I'll ask them what their policy is.

i do think they will pay it.

if it was a couple grand however... then the small print would be coming out.
#38
Wouldnt it be better to argue the toss that it was Gary Cahill he placed the bet on ( yeah i know its not on the slip ) but its worth the try imo , and if there not having it then go with the £5 on each bet !

Shouldnt the bookie point out beforehand that there are two players of the same surname before someone places a bet ( if they havnt written the christian name ? )

I'm 100% sure because they have a Option & the option is a Split bet. It's like when you have 2 horses in a big race & both horses start with the same name & your hand writing is so bad the bookie will always split the bet.

But how do you know that if you don't even know the bookie?
