Possible Xbox Live Family Pack hack

Not sure if this works in the UK, but noticed this interesting post about how to make the best use of the XBL Family Pack over on lifehacker.com. Link is here or read content below (would be interested to know if anyone has tried it!)

Quote:

Xbox live Family Packs... AKA... you and four friends on the cheap.

Microsoft offers a family fun pack... me and a friend decided to go in together on one with our sons. It basically works like this...

1. Pick someone to be a primary.... take other accounts/recover accounts on that persons Xbox.

2. Have that person purchase the Xbox Live Family pack... that person will get credit for all the time he has left on his account... roughly $5 a month.

3. Once that person signs up they'll be able to add members. It will walk you through how to do this. It's pretty easy.

4. The best part about it is you get an additional month added to your account for every two months you have left... and they round up. So if you have 2 months left for 1 person... you now have 1 month for four people.

Once set-up is complete then you can recover the other accounts at their home Xbox's.

That's it. With the time we had left... plus the original discount... we ended up with 21 months of Xbox live for 4 people for $80. When we renew... it's only $24.25 per person or roughly $2.025 per month. Pretty good deal.

Did this last week. Works a treat. Me and 3 others have got live until the end of 2012 :)

Also if the primary account only has around 6 months its worth trying to pick up a cheap 12 month sub for around (£25-£28) as xbox will give you £36 saving off the family pack.

You could also buy another 12months and put it on one of the sub accounts, it will then get halved and given to each family member, 6 months extra each.

4 gamertags with no xbox live subscription.

Buy 12 month subs X2 (£28) £56 spent so far
Gamertag A 12 month sub
Gamertag B 12 month sub
Gamertag C
Gamertag D

Gamertag A is primary, because it has 12 months left of live xbox will give £36 discount off the £70 so you will only have to pay £34 on your debit/credit card.
As Gamertag B has 12 months left (after activating the £28 sub) this will be halved and then split between the four (6 months each)

Final outcome is 18 months xbox live for four people for a total cost of £90 which works out as £22.50 each for the 18 month duration.

Sorted!! :-) Am definitely going to give this a try next time I need to renew - will get a few of my friends to club in together!!

This was obvious from the start, but the main thing is that all users are then at the mercy of the primary, ie security and card detail wise, the other users can not buy ms points on the card etc, and the primary has a pretty good amount of control over the other accounts such as play time and what games can be played

Almost like what you would expect in a family arrangement.

They should develop a subscription scheme for a scenario like that :)

Seriously, the family members need not all reside at the same property. The "Family Pack" subscription is designed to work as described above.

BFN,

Skellysgirl, good points, but for most people I can't see that being too much of a problem between friends. And, this tip was new to me! :-)

I just find it restrictive at times even for 4 of us that do live in the same house, im primary and these hubby's and 2 kids and as I'm the primary im the one who has to do everything.
