You can claim using a P58. I'm not 100% sure on the time scale, but I think it's after 30 days, phone 08457 740740. The 'new' postal orders are more 'trackable' now. Don't worry, as long as you have the receipt you should be OK. Also they will know if it has been cashed and where. If it had his name on it, it can only be Banked or used at the P/O to pay bills such as BT etc.

I'm 95% sure you cannot cash them if they have a name on.

Post Office I go to,they just give over cash when cashing it.

I wouldn't personally send a postal order, and if I did well I cross it so could only be cashed in by person named on front into a bank account.
Ages back I didn't receive a postal order and it went ' missing' in post, was cashed in at a post office less than 10min walk from me,buyer sent me a letter from Royal Mail saying it been cashed in,but it wasn't me. Was a fair bit, around £30. They don't asked for I.D either, doesn't matter what post office I could go to,I could cash in a p.o and not be asked for I.D.

Ummmm, I think a phone call would sort this out:-

You can have the payee name printed on the new style Postal Orders which makes them even more secure. With each Postal Order, you'll receive a separate receipt containing all the information you need should you wish to make an enquiry.

Its understanable if they know you like I'm a regular at one post office here, but I've been in plenty of post offices cashed in p.o's for all sorts of amounts and never been asked for I.D.
I haven't bought a postal order since I used to have to send off 35MM films in them envelopes for Truprint! Well before I had cheque book.

I suppose the moral of this story is to always get the payee's name printed on any orders and then cross them. That way they can only be paid into a bank account with the same name.

Damn the Post Office for being bone idle and not asking for IDs. :x

I went to our local P.O. with a postal order that had no name on it, he said
" i cant cash it without a name or signature on it" so I fluttered my eyelashes a bit and he said
"go on then, just fill it in now!" ;-)

didnt ask for any I.D:w00t:
