Ours have been striking for 2 days a week for the past 2 months or so. Hoepfully they'll be destitute soon so we get someone who will deliver the mail.

yes - herts is in the triangle of the most militant workers - forget liverpool for strikes now its down here

theres a lot of relocationing going on - for the better i think - modernised up to date sorting offices - but the guys dont want it - means them travelling half an hour to get to work etc

I wish a severe case of piles on the lot of them.

I saw my postman this morning leisurely trotting down the street texting on his mobile, those poor sods, give em a load more money and get them back on half-a-days work for a full days pay !

tis funny all the 'privatisation' talk , folk dont understand how royal mail is run these days, and how it has to 'subsidise' most of the other couriers now.

See all that junk mail that you get which has a little 's' as the logo where a stamp would be? Well since 4-5 years ago the government (who owns royal mail btw) decided to let all the major couriers start using royal mails delivery network to deliver their own mail for them. (?)

So now all the big couriers have taken away the lucrative letter contracts (banks, supermarkets etc) Eg.. a big courier like TNT say, waltzes into tesco and says it can deliver all its mail to royal mail standards for less money... how can they refuse that? So tesco hands over its million items of mail every week, does TNT then deliver this mail with 1000's of postmen? Nah it drops it off at royal mail sorting offices for delivery and pays royal mail a tiny percentage (regulator set an silly low price on this) and royal mail then has to deliver it, losing money on every single item it delivers in this way as the courier is creaming off the easy part of the mail process (collection and drop off for sorting), add to this that every main courier in the uk is doing this now, and you get a company that is being shafted left right and centre whilst couriers profit for doing virtually nothing.

I was in management a few years back ;)

I dont know why they dont sack the lot of them and let pensioners do the job on a voluntary basis, not only would the post get delivered considerably quicker and without a percentage of it being stolen but it would also keep these gangs of unruly old people from congregating at coffee mornings and post office queues.

I hate the postmen striking, i think they are given too much power to be allowed to strike soo often, i asume they don't get paid while striking?? if so they must get paid more than enough to afford to not work days on end! Do we get our money back if we pay for next day delivery and it dosn't arrive next day, no i dont think so, where else do we accept paying for one thing and get something completly different. Rant over

lol of course you do, its part of the guarantee.

oh heres a link about my last post ,

Legislation forces the Royal mail to sell this downstream access to third party companies at prices that the Royal mail is then not allowed to compete with.

this says it all, the government introduced this system, then wouldnt even let royal mail price itself into the equation, instead it has to take a loss at a couriers gain, i imagine things like this are behind the strikes, not 'whinging lazy postmen ' lol

He might be emptying his sack elsewhere.

Absolute joke i've been waiting for letters that were sent from the Borders first class to Edinburgh last Monday, would have been quicker walking to get them.

We've been lucky, Plymouth have been out on strike a few times, but we have had post even on those days, our posties have taken the attitude that they'll only have to work harder and longer to deliver the backlog so just keep going with a token few at the gates with placards.
#35
Sent 3 items in 3 weeks, 2 never arrived and one sent parcel post was first returned to me and upon second sending took a week to arrive!
[mod]#36
I didn't get any today............guess they are busy stoking the fire on the picket line again today. Oh well..............karma tells me that it's going to pee it down tomorrow. :-D
