Posting An Item -- Refunds options for lost / undelivered mail.

a fellow HUKD'er bought an item from myself using Paypal Gift, and this was posted on 25 Nov (Tues), for £1.08, as a standard package.

I bought the stamps from local newsagents (previously a PO until the recent closures). The lad who served me is/was the postmaster, so I asked him to sign the receipt as proof of purchase. He kindly did so and then actually posted the item for me outside the shop/old PO. We know it when in the box, ready for collection at 5pm.

What im asking is, what comeback do I have as the buyer has PM'd me saying they have not received the item in question. It wasn't sent "recorded" as my nearest PO is a bus ride away, plus I have not had time due to work.

Both my self and the buyer agreed normal postage would be OK!

Did you get an 'actual' proof of posting form ?, if you didnt you got zero chance, irelivent of what the kid signed. RM will not look into it very quickly especally as it wasnt send recorded as well, its the UL situation.

Before I comment on this story I need to confirm whether the 'lad' in the 'shop' IS or WAS the 'postmaster'. I feel this could be vital, mmmmmmmmmmmmmm.

as its a shop now, former post office, i guess the 'lad' is no longer an actual postmaster,

Edit: i can also imagine many peeps here when receiving an item that is not recorded, will claim they havent received it even though they have. I dont care if this offends people as im certain its true.

OKAY, yet another prob with HUKD FS/FT!!Who was it? Much as I like HUKD and all the peeps on it, this place is full of scammers, even for pennies!!!!Paypal gift is always a dodgy option, you have your receipt, but.........paypal gift has no back-up for you as a seller. sorry but sounds like you've been done, if it makes you feel better you ain't the first

The more you see of it, the more you think that HUKD would be better off without FS/FT. Seems to attract the wrong sort of person and bring the worst out of others.

Remember, always look for those who have the most to gain. I reckon the 'lad' is MR BIG, running a massive postage stamp scam!

the lad was the postmaster BEFORE the actual PO closed down (in August) - but still owns the shops, and runs it as a newsagents..

Wont mention the buyer (yet), as we've been in touch via PM.

lol and that post box probably has a tunnel leading back to the shop via a hatch behind the till? :p

No your wrong, the buyer has no comeback on paypal gift not the seller. The buyer cannot open a paypal dispute if he used paypal gift.
The seller will not have to refund the buyer that is why I think in this case the buyer isn't at it but more than likely just hasn't recieved the item.

At this time of the year my local sorting office has a two week delay already on packet mail therefore the buyer is very premature with their claim. A fortnight is standard waiting time with Royal Mail

As long as you have a PM or email from the buyer stating that standard postage is fine then this will help your cause but not resolve it.

Basically it boils down to a 'lost in the post' item.

See the Royal Mail website for the criteria but for standard postage, although the majority gets delivered within a couple of days, officially it can take up to several weeks before Royal Mail will recognise it as lost.

If thats the case, then the only redress is for both you and the buyer to agree on completing a lost item claim form from Royal Mail. They will then decide upon it on its merits and agree a refund/claim, however this claim as far as I'm aware is paid in postage value and not cash.

It would then be up to you and the buyer how to agree on a satisfactory resolve of the issue whether its you keeping the postage value claim and refunding the buyer or whatever.

If the value of the item is greater than the max claim value (32 or 34 quid i think), then you should have sent it via recorded or special delivery.

I learned this lesson many moons ago. Always get proof of postage with the buyers postcode and door number on it printed and stamped, hence I always send via Recorded or if higher value then Special. That way there is no dispute on when or how it was posted.

its actually upto £36, anymore than that, then your recommended to go recorded I think

buyer and myself have agreed to wait til mondays post, do you think that is still too early? I have 4 feedbacks on here. 100% on *bay, and Rep after HUKD Rep. there's no reason for me not to post it!

Given that its on the run up to Christmas then I'd wait until the full length of time has passed in order to claim it as lost. This isnt unreasonable. As frustrating as it may be, its still reasonable for both of you to wait until it has been officially recognised as lost in the post.

If you dont wish to wait that length of time then it reverts back to you both coming to some agreement to resolve the matter.

I cba to check the thread when disco sent me a message saying to wait 2 weeks as i didnt know it was a witch hunt for me tbh i have my feedback here and aint going to go make it look bad over a game and i am quite ****** off that people think that i am a cheat especially considering i stated it was upto the seller which postage method was used WHICH IT GENUINLEY IS i always send things recorded whether they are worth 6 pounds or 30 pounds.

For fools that think that i can scam with paypal i left the seller a message just to give him the heads up i did not expect a refund then or even for quite a while. Also i actually expected the seller to just disapear as i would have no recource with paypal gift and i knew that so am glad that the seller has been at all understanding unlike it seems most the people in this thread would have been.

I am sorry starspike that someone scammed you out of postage and genuinley am and antz can state the fact that i have been scammed out of 90 quid on this forum so aint going to cheat anyone else on here there are two words i wuld like to say as it really annoys me that the OP asked for postage claiming advice (which i would agree was premature but i did state if it turns up i will 100% refund him) and it seems to accuse me of cheating!

Btw. thanks disco for not stating my name but i am glad i decided to check the thread,

Dont see the OP accusing the buyer of anything from the post description. All the OP was looking for (from what I read in the post description) was a little guidance on the matter. I think its a bit too premature to be jumping on the defense wagon. I didnt see anything untowards about the transaction from what the OP stated in the post. Still dont. All I see is a delayed item in the post due to Christmas period and the usual Royal Snail Mail taking its time.

i have had 2 items go missing on here, both times i filled out a form for royal mail to get the cost back but if i remember rightly they rejected both ......g rrrrrrr

anyways the buyers knew if it was lost then we come to some agreement,,,, i always send 1st class unless the buyer asks for recorded (only 2 people ever have)

recorded covers our backs but the buyers on here should know this isnt ebay and you win some, lose some......... i go out of my way to my buyers, i will help them get their money back from royal mail

back on track lol ask your buyer to wait till rthe royal mail 15 day period, if it doesnt arrive then fill out a lost parcel form for royal mail

this normally scares the whits out of the buyer cos if they are lying they can be done for fraud by royal mail

christ i am the buyer and i didnt say the seller was accusing me i said that other poeple in the thread were (by that i mean the later posts made). I seriously am glad that i had that buyer and not some other people it would seem.

I am happy to wait the 2 weeks i have also told the buyer that.

All i am saying is random people making accusations should get your facts right about paypal gift and maybe if you need to post not state with certanty that i am a scammer i wouldnt have minded if it was a there is a chance that.... but it wasnt it was you HAVE been cheated. I am not a cheat and actually care about my feedbacks.

As ants did say being paypal gift i cant open a dispute so there isnt a way to scam the seller if that makes sense?

(the only reason i am being defensive is because of other posts accusing me of being a cheat without a single fact to support there idea)

jamhops do you have a bullet in your ar5e ??? you seem to be jumping to conclusions

disco hasnt said anything accusing you, he wanted advice on what to do cos its his first time an item was lost

instead of shouting your mouth (or typing a load of bull), go back to the corner and re read the thread

you seriously need to sort yourself out .......... pm disco and work out where you are going from here and stop accusing people

Actually I know where you're coming from here. When I started trading on here I got hit hard with the HUKD SWAT team. Accusations with no basis, just wild and reckless statements from HUKD users that served no purpose at all other than to fuel their own arguments. You will get people on here like that, totally unreasonable, antagonistic and they post provocative statements. They dont do themselves nor the site any justice at all. I'd name and shame them if I were you and confront any accusations with them head on, that way you can deal with each one as they post. They will get the message when you engage with them directly.

its ok bud!

the reason why it was posted just normal 1st class, was not due to be being lazy, but a cpl of things

a) my local PO closed a few months ago
b) my next nearest is a bus ride away
c) I have just started work this week, and work 8:30 - 5 (get bk in at just after 6)
d) both myself and buyer agreed on 1st class postage for the above reasons (I could have waited until today to post recorded, but buyer wanted to play game ASAP)

Yet another issue with Royal Mail

17 november, I posted some vouchers to a hukd'er and received a PM today to say he has not received them.

sent recorded delivery, but do not have the recepit/proof to hand, as were in the middle of boxing up for our (almost certain) house move. anything I can do? Im sick of RM. that 2 items in 2 weeks they've lost. And they'll blame the xmas post! :x:x
