yay its the common sense post, sadly it needs to be here

same as i know people that buy a need one of these poundland type ones every week since they made so cheaply they brake very quickly, rather than just getting a real one from the mfg

tho ya the risk from fire or other damage is more important, just saying

Good heads up.
They do look utter crap, but obviously people should me able to trust shops (even cheap ones)

and dont get confused if it has CE as it doesn't always mean European Conformity. it can mean China export.

They should be CE/BS tested, off to jail for the buyer at Poundland.

|The problem with CE is that it is done by the makers, and are they likely to fail their own stuff??

CE is about as much use as a chocolate teapot.

Not a Poundland one, but one that cost about £5 exploded on me a few years a go, about 8 hours after I plugged it in; blew the usb cable across the room.

and yet thousands of people have used cheap chargers for decades without a single issue.

I think i'll stick to my cheap chargers.

You can't beat an Apple lightning to usb cable for £19. Sometimes they last for weeks before they fail. Though, I suppose there's no evidence yet of them electrocuting anyone.

Had my poundshop charger for well over a year, bargain!

I refuse to buy the official apple chargers as they only last a few weeks before they fall apart, So it's no wonder people buy cheaper ones that last longer!

Price is irrelevant just cos you spent 10 quid on it doesn't it didn't cost 9p to make, that amazon fire recall proves that.

My charger from poundland has been working for over a year.

Whilst I would never buy a £1 charger, I also wouldn't stump up the ridiculous prices that some of the OEMs charge for theirs, there are plenty of decent cheaper alternatives out there.

And it's funny how all of these news articles appear to say you shouldn't use cheap chargers, only manufacturer originals, when almost all of the manufacturers are currently seeing falling sales of all their products. You'd almost think it was linked somehow.....

If your official Apple chargers are only lasting a few weeks then I would love to know what on earth you are doing to them to kill them off.

I've had official Apple ones for years without any issues whatsoever.

This might be worth a watch https://youtu.be/RvSX7JkYNZw - he doesn't like Poundworld electricals but is quite impressed with the Poundland chargers (but would still hesitate to plug a £600 iPhone in)

The poundworld ones are the dodgy ones in this article - this thread is confusing the two.

Nothing wrong with my £1 chargers, I once bought a sink/drain clearing pump from Poundland. Looks like a balloon pump but a bit bigger and has a rubber flange on the base, cracking item, went in B&Q and they have the same thing (identical except for colour) B&Q`s price £9.99. Just because it cost a quid doesn't mean its badly made or dangerous.

I've had my poundshop charger for over 2 years and not yet had any issues with it. Reading this makes me a bit nervous about removing it from the plastic packaging and actually using it though!

The cost of an item 'should not' come into it. Ok, if it's dirt cheap you wouldn't expect to get it with a nice cleaned off plastic case. There might be bits of plastic edging sticking out where it hadn't been cleaned off at the factory. It must be fit for purpose though no matter what cost! That is UK trading law. You also get a 12 month guarantee no matter the cost too. However, if the item stops working within a week or two you are entitled to a refund or a replacement, your choice. Don't expect to be able to keep going back for a new one every couple of weeks though. This post is about dangerous items that should not be on the shelves full stop.

I wouldn't bother anyway. All the pound shop chargers I have seen are only 500ma, which is next to useless for any half decent phone these days.

Mr Lewis's weekly email seems to be confusing the two as well!

Wait for the writ to arrive from Poundland.
