Power voltage help

OK here goes

I have a mains powered socket that sends power to anything that is USB powered.

The output of the mains socket is +5.0V (followed by a symbol a straight line, with a line as such --- underneath the straight line) followed by 0.5A

I am trying to power something that requires an input of 5V-0.5A

So power socket output is +5.0V--0.5A with a line like this _ _ _ below the straight line
The item I am trying to power requires an input of 5V-0.5A

Question is the main has the additional symbol (the line with the three broken lines underneath) whilst the kit I am trying to power only has a single line (5V-0.5A , no broken line underneath the line between the two figures)

Are they compatible ????

All help greatly appreciated

Simple if its AC I.E. MAINS SUPPLY looks like this ~ with a line under it.

If it DC I.E. Direct Current for charging batteries or powering up low votage its looks like this --- with a line above it.

so yes as long as the symbol is the same and the voltage is the same

Thanks for the post so far guys, makes things alittle clearer.

OK the time i am trying to power doesn't have --- just a line between the input requirements, but I am assuming this is fine?
