hi guys, i have a pre op assessment this wednesday for my knee, but still dont have a date for my op....just wondered if anybody have had pre op assessments or anything and if they heard then when their op date was going to be? gotta take urine sample with me and all...and i assume theres no point in doing a pre op assessment to wait even longer for an op? any help would be great.

cheers guys!

I had a pre op when I had my gall bladder out, but I already knew my op date, yours must be within 2 weeks I'd guess, maybe the letter with the date hasn't arrived, just mention it to them at the pre op,
hope it all goes ok

Definitely get him to take a week off, you shouldn't be lifting anything for a while and that includes your baby I'm afraid, my ex was a complete ass and when the nurse found out there was going to be no one at hone with me when u came out of the op even she phoned him up to tell him to take some time off work, they should have given you a leaflet about lifting etc.. I'm much better after my op, I get some pain due to scar tissue but nothing like the pain I had before k had my gall bladder out! And yep I had key hole surgery too you should be out of hospital in a day or two but make sure you rest, the thing they told me to remember was although you haven't had major surgery on the outside your insides still have.

im having keyhole AND open surgery on my right knee....if i remember from the letter its for cartilage removal, patella tendon repair and also to remove the "calcific segment" on the knee.

i just wanna have it done now. ive been waiting for ages and just would like it over with.....

plus im looking forward to experiencing the general anathestic =)

I am sure you will be given the option of dates at the pre op assessment (you should have some choice with this).

Write down all your questions now to ask at the pre op assessment.

People often don't realise that even if it only a day case procedure, if you have had a general anaesthetic, you need a few days off afterwards.

Takes at least 48hrs for the anaesthetic to work it's way out of your system, even though you feel totally normal. Longer after major surgery.

BTW, you are not having major surgery.............but if it makes you feel better, you are!

thanks for reply, i will tell my partner to take the week off, luckily hes got the week off before for his birthday so hopefully he shouldnt have a problem changing it. is it a quite straight forward op, im very nervous as ive never had an operation before or been put to sleep.

Very normal to be nervous before any operation, especially when they have to tell you about the possible complications (which are rare, but no doubt there will be someone along to regale us with their horror story!!).

lol ok cheers!

ive been told that i will be off work for at least 4 weeks. my job involves standing on my feet all day so im in no rush to come back either.

what kinda questions should i ask? i really have no idea what will be said etc. and the letter said the pre assessment will take between 3-4 hours

I knew when mine was going to be before the pre-op because the pre-op should be close to this date

Is basically to give you a chance to ask any questions and for them to do basic tests to check you are fit for the op (blood pressure, blood test, weight, ask general questions e.g. have you got a cold) so no point you going 2 weeks before the op because things could have changed. They will also probably to a swab to check you dont have MRSA before you go in.

Usually around a week before the op to give them time to get test results back and checked, but not too long that you catch a cold or something between the pre-op and the op itself

Hope everything goes well for you

Ok, so i had my pre assessment yday....but wasnt given a date and was told it could still be another 8 weeks!!! But im going to give it a week for my tests to go through then give them a call again and ask them about cancellations etc.

was a bit of a downer not being given a date but i suppose its another step closer!!
