Predicting how tall your children are going to be.

I was told that if you measure how big a baby is at 6 months and then multiply that by 3, or measure them at 2 years and then double it, you will get their height when fully grown. We did this with our kids and it has proved to be amazingly accurate.

I must have been a nightmare at over 3ft when I was 2 then

hahaha!!

DS1 was quite tall at 2
DS2 was below average.

DS1 is 6 and DS2 is now 3. so this thread will have to run a loooong time for me to find out if there is any truth in above statements!

This just isn't true, sorry.

Even if the calculation were correct, which it isn't as we all develop at different rates, height is influenced by so many factors throughout our developing years, illness, undernourishment, all kinds of environmental influences mean we may never reach our full genetic potential.

not true. how can it be? there are so many environmental variables. If people do think its true they prob also think meaning of life is also 42... obviously..

me too!!

Also means my baby, who is 6 months, will be 201cm, seems unlikely to me!!

Well I just go by their little red books........just follow the line they have been on for height and that will give you a good idea how big they will be by the age of 18.................it accounts for all the growth sperts kids usually have along the way this way too.

this way my son will be 6 foot 4
and my daughter will be 5 foot 9

not surprising to me since my other half is 6 foot 6.5" and I am 5 foot 2.5

All I'm saying is that in our case it has proved to be accurate. Both O/H and I are not that tall nor are/were our parents, so we were surprised all those years ago that this method was predicting our kids were going to be over 6 feet tall and that has happened.

Did you have a tall milkman ?.

I can categorically guarantee Unigate had no involvement as we actually had a milk-woman deliver ours in those days!

When my eldest was younger I asked our HV if she could predict her height. She had a round chart type thing and she said she would be approx 5' 9" by age 16. She's now 11 and is as tall as me (5' 3") so it could be correct or she might be even taller!

Anecdotal evidence does not equal facts!
