I have the mum of 2 cats and she is pregnant. I dont think she can be far off delivering but the kittens she had last year have started suckling. Never having had a cat that has had kittens I'm not sure how 'normal' this is - should I keep mum away from them until after she has them???

Don't worry, the kittens don't NEED to suckle at this point, they just do it for comfort/habit. Make sure the new ones get priority and the older ones will soon stop.

The ones she has no are fine suckling for now as far as i know.

Probably just natures way of stimulating & getting the milk supply going for the newbies ...

Oh GOD!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If I post piccies it will start a caturday thread or a post your pets thread and I'll get lots of stick for it! :(
When Mum produces I'll ask if she minds pictures of her babies on the net - after all - there's a lot of weirdos around and they say you shouldn't post pictures of the kids! LOL
Never done a photo before but I will give it a go. Last time she had some she did it while I was out - I'm hoping to be in this time and see the event. so you may all get a running commentary anyway!

I have had kittens before well not me personally but a cat we had, my hubby helped deliver one of them as she got tired after number 4 coming out, so he had to pull final one out a bit for her and pull the bag off the kitten and had to revive it, my mother in law has the cat now as its her lucky cat as her son helped it stay alive!

I think you may have to take the bigger kittens away as soon as the others are born.......I had this situation with the older ones only 12 weeks and the mum (dirty cow) having another lot. She preferred the older ones so used to get up on a chair with the big ones to feed them, we ended up having to bottle feed the little ones as she rejected them for the older ones. Phone a local vet and ask the nurse they will advise the best thing to do.

Don't forget to do a FS/FT listing for the new ones. I'm after a kitten at the mo !!!!

She will be spayed after this - Im not irresponsible. This was planned in as much as I didnt get her spayed after the first lot deliberately and let nature take its course. She had 4 kittens last year and we kept 2. one died at a couple of weeks of age and the other one lives up the road from us and is now called Timmy. I will find good homes for them - however many there are.
