Can anyone help? Want to get OH a camera for Christmas, wanted the Cybershot W130 but its just too much even at a great price of £90. So...the one at tesco for £60 or the one at play for £50? Play has face detection but I dont think it looks as sleek as the tescot one?

Just a thought - have you looked at Jessops?

They have a nive 10mg 5 x optical zoom Fuji (is it?) camera on there for a steal of a price.....
My o/h bought it the other day, as what you are saying is exactly what I was hearing....

that the play one http://www.play.com/Electronics/Electronics/4-/6856124/Samsung-D860-8-1-Megapixel-Digital-Camera/ProductReviews.html

haven't looked at jessops. Unfortunately I have no clue about cameras at all so wouldn't know if it was good value or not. You would have a model number of anything?

Yea I have.... Hold on.....

Chose this one as the zoom is 5 times which is better than the average 3 times, and ... Errrr? And.. it was reduced from £260 to £99, and... Errr? you may even be able to get one cheaper now? Vouchers and what not... Errr.... Also it is 10 mega pixels rather than the eight or so average...

Yep!

Thats the beauty!

The zoom is quite good (as its 4 times) the mega oixels are OK - not great but OK, and its cheaper!!

Da daaaa!

The only thing is, is when do you stop?

I mean OK so for another 20 quid you get a bigger zoom and bigger pixels which make the picture quality better, but like I said where do you stop? I think you just have to set a budget and follow your heart.

If it is the brand name you are after then go for the Sony, as I know for some reason people like it, but if it is for the better pictures and zoom, then have a think.

Lets face it , they are all covered by the guarantee anyway, and not that many of these type of things go wrong these days... So.....

xxxxx

Glad to help though.

One of the good things about these is that they have a SIMPLE mode!! (Just for THEM!!)

LOL!!

I would give the P50 a wide berth because instead of a true image-stabilisation tool –Nikon includes its Best Shot Selector, which takes up to ten pictures in rapid succession and then automatically selects the sharpest.

Ouch!

I would go for the Canon PowerShot A470, which you can get for around £75.00. Check out prices here:-

A470 price comparison

Google for reviews, all of which to say that this is a good, no-frills entry level camera that will give you good results.

Thanks for your help again cloudcat and therealpmuk. I think what I'll do is get her the £60 one from tesco and get he a SD card. Plus have money left to get he a gift voucher for topshop/miss selfridge and new look...you can never go wrong with vouchers for clothes shops :D

I honestly feel like my parents at this time and it depresses me. I literally know nothing about this area of technology :giggle:

If it is any consolation - you are not the only person who feels like that! And as it's a present, then I think you have gone for the right option! EVERYBODY LOVES CLOTHES VOUCHERS TOO! :p
