Silver charm bracelet - and you can buy her a little charm every year for her birthday. She can wear her when she's older.

how about a wicker basket with all different things in, i got given one from my work mates and it was really nice, it had baby shampoo, bubble bath, talc, sponge, towel etc pack of nappies, stuffed toy, plastic plate and spoons, cotton wool, dummies, them sort of things.

The best gift i got when my son was born was a blue stack and store toy box filled with nappies, wipes, cotton wool, shampoo, sponges, dummies, bottles, bibs and a couple of teethers and toys.
Then a basket of pamper products for me, bubble bath, chocolates, massage oil, etc etc

very practical and my fave! everyone buys clothes and you end up with way too many!

If your friend knows it's a girl from scan results, don't be too hasty to buy pink, as I found out to my cost with my 1st when baby popped out with a tinkle lol! I had to sell the hundreds of pounds worth of clothes etc to gather the funds to rebuy everything for a boy!

About 18 months later, the exact same thing happened to a work colleague!

A mobile - they are lovely above a cot. Mothercare have some lovely ones in their online sale.

My daughter was given a guardian angel mobile just to hang from the ceiling - and at 10 years old she has it there as she thinks it gives her good luck!

+1 don't forget the stressed and frazzled momma, also a nice touch was a little something for older siblings so they don't feel pushed out.

Forget clothes as with new baby's you always end up with too many, the charm bracelet is good though as its something you can keep adding to come xmas/easter/birthday etc.

the post office do SMILERS. Its stamps of any image or photograph you chhose to give them. ask the babies parents to send their favorie pic of the wee girl and you can do it online. They are fantastic keepsakes, and they are real stamps. ive done this loads of times and parents love them

have a peak on born gifted.com they have some really nice personalised stuff.
When i had my daughter one of the things that my oh bought (as daft as it may sound) is the daily newspapers for a couple of quid!. In years to come we can look back and see what the headline news was, the weather etc on the day she was born - i have suggested it to other friends who have done the same for their LO's and kept them with their 'First's bits and bobs'

Way too young for a mobile. If you really have too, make sure it's a PAYG.

We did that too for all our kids - plus bought a couple of the No.1 single in the Top 40. Its great to look back on many years later.

definately a box of essentials The Johnsons ones are good as handy storage too. Baby Box This one at asda is only £10 everywhere else sells it for £25!

Also scratch mits, socks, vests and hats. You tend to get given loads of clothes but rarely these things and they easily get lost in the wash! Or if you buy clothes buy 3-6 months or 6-9 as most people buy newborn and they quickly grow.
