I'm looking for a hotel for amsterdam next month and have found priceline..
Not 100% sure how it works... is it as simple as picking an area, naming a price and then waiting?

What would happen if i named a price but then decided i didnt want the hotel or i found another one in the meantime?

Total newbie to it - any advice welcome!

Thanks.

You should get an instant decision. You name your price and the area where you would like to be located. You also get to chose the star rating you would prefer. If you name and price and do not want they hotel that has been found for you, you loss the cash. Risky but a lot of people have got some real good bargains from it. This time last year I went to New York and stayed in a 4* Hotel for £320 for 4 nights.

Check out these sites would be my advice - they give a good indication of what hotel you're likely to get if you're prepared to do some research.

That's actually a little misleading or maybe its the way you've worded it.

You would only lose money, if you have accepted their offer of X hotel at Y price. But you might get away with the cancellation based on the hotel's T&Cs.

Read the T&C section:

Making Bookings and Cancellations

We operate as a disclosed agent for third party suppliers (the hotels on our site). This means that the contract for the accommodation is between you and the supplier. In many cases this will mean that there are additional terms and conditions governing the contract as each supplier may have their own terms and conditions. Whilst we provide details of suppliers' policies these details are not intended to be a full list of the terms and conditions of any supplier.

When you make a booking a legally binding agreement is made when all your details have been entered and you click the "CONFIRM" button on the appropriate web page.

You undertake that the details you provide us with in making a booking are correct.

You can make cancellations either by contacting the supplier directly, or by going to the cancellation page shown at the bottom of your confirmation email. In the event that you use activehotels.com to cancel your booking we will inform the supplier of the cancellation within a reasonable time. Please be aware that the supplier may impose a cancellation charge depending on how far in advance of the booking you cancel. We do not accept liability for any cancellation charges incurred other than through our failure to notify a supplier within a reasonable time of receiving your notification to cancel.

I would imagine so, but I've only ever used priceline.com - it shouldn't be an issue, same company.
