By all accounts the person he calls Sooty (to his face apparently) does not mind in the slightest and classes it as a term of affection.

Dont worry though, there will always be the media and racists with chips on their shoulders who will still object - despite the fact its said "as a term or endearment" and enjoyed by the recipient.

What a load of pap. Who cares? If it's the guys nickname and he doesn't mind why should anyone else. It's obviously not a term of abuse.

Would have been worse if it was "Sweep" I expect? :w00t:

Brilliant! shows some form of being human within the Royal Family.

Total respect to "Sooty" for standing up and saying "SO WHAT, I enjoy being called Sooty"

We need a decent war again to fill the Media headlines, shallow Journalism looking for a quick sell.

Where will they draw the line with this patheticness!

Going back to the Harry situation earlier in the week, can I ask is quote "****" short for a person from Pakistan? as "Brit" is short for a person from Britain (slang) as "Jock" a person from Scotland. Lets step back to the 70s and remember the Paddy from Ireland.

Abusive and discriminatory language should not be accepted within society but this was the persons nickname and has anyone asked is he called "Sooty" as in the "SOOTY SHOW" not as in what people want it to be!.

Rant over!

In theory that should be something I can agree with but as with anything it is the context and the intent behind the words as they are being used.

I remember that my black school friends used to call me "whitey", and oddly enough one of them went by the nickname "sooty" too.

Changed days.

Perhaps Sooty is being polite by saying that it does not offend him being called names by "big ears", the future UK King?

Won't have to worry about the crown falling over his eyes anyway, should he ever get to wear one.

Countries gone mad why make such a big deal out of everything at the end of the day its a nickname and if the person is not offended then who cares.
I agree with jonnic... Not only that how many people can hold there hand up and say they were not called names in the playground at some point in there school life.
I think its about time people grew a thick skin and learn to rise above it all.
I do agree that in certain situations it is uncalled for, but what is wrong with friendly banter
