I LOLd as well, but then thought WTF? these people drive on the same UK roads as I do.

I mean FFS how mentally ill do you have to be to think "hmm... lets get out of the car - that'll work!"

You can't blame them for sliding on the ice - they weren't going fast, and still slid, but wtf? jumping out of the car.

Sheesh.

Should be banned imo. Could have killed somebody. What the driver did was negligent and dangerous.

And what kind of moron gets out of a car as its crashing?

The same sort of moron that sits in his window with a video camera waiting for it to happen!

Word on the street is that the police are looking into the possiblilty of a dangerous driving charge!

I think they thought that by getting out off the car they could stop it due to the slow speed they were travelling, how wroong could you be!

Don't be daft. He had absolutely no control of that car as soon as it started sliding down the hill.

He relinquished control by burying the brake pedal into the floor, and for some reason forgoing his right to steer.

Driver's fault, dangerous driving, 6 points, done

also wouldnt it be better if he was to try cadence braking while on the ice??
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cadence_braking
essential act like his own abs or would it just make no diffference on the ice at all
i dont drive yet so have never driven on ice so wouldnt have a clue lol

It's not dangerous driving. He was driving well below the speed limit, probably no more than 5MPH and had absolutely no control of his vehicle because of horrific, freak ice conditions on a hill.

LOL not dangerous driving??? what are you on??? you think thats acceptable then? :?

car started to accelerate more when they got out the car (because the front wheels were rolling!)

Dude jumping out the car while its still moving is dangerous in majority of peoples books.. and is considered dangerous driving (or lack of rather!)

IMO it is dangerous driving. The accident could have been avoided, the driver is at fault.

If someone can't fully control a car, they are a dangerous driver.

exactly, just because one has failed to gain control of car because of weather doesnt mean its a free pass. its kind like saying.. oh i smacked the back of your car.. cos the road was slippery.. and i so happened to jump out beforehand so it wasnt my fault :x

You are absolutely mad.

The dangerous driving charge only applies if the driver has knowingly acted in a dangerous manner. In this case, because of the road conditions he had no control whatsoever over his vehicle. Had he approached the hill at 30MPH then slammed on the brakes, then yes, that's dangerous as he was not taking the weather conditions into account.

This driver could not have done anything at all to prevent this accident. I'm pretty sure that had 99% of the drivers here been in the exact position then they could not have controlled the car.

I don't think anyone could have handled that situation any differently everything was against the driver it was a no win situation, But the driver should not of left the vehicle whilst in motion that was the only Offence committed :)

Straight to name-calling is it? What an intelligent person you must be. Yawn.

I was in THIS VERY SAME SITUATION 2 days ago on a completely untouched road and in an older car, and on an incline (as this fool is). By pumping the brake, and actually trying to drive the car, the front eventually regained some grip and I avoided an accident.

I think you may have mis-read my post, its says "IMO it is dangerous driving." In my opinion. Is my opinion OK thought enforcement officer?

Surprised no one has mentioned the driver who very nearly got dragged under the car.

Pathetic driving for sure, but they will be done for careless driving, not dangerous.

As for the bloke recording it, they clearly knew it was icy - and could have been filming to have a copy for an insurance claim if a vehicle hit their own. I don't blame them at all - and they also managed to get a quite stupendously mental piece of driving on tape.

It won't happen, but regardless of the conditions - the driver should not be allowed on the road.

Apparently it totally a car at the bottom of the hill, but what if it was a bunch of kids playing in the ice/snow? Its just absolutely crazy.

umm.. no, from the footage they were still attempting to go down the hill (i.e. wheels faced down the hill) then simply they could've angled it towards the kerb to prevent this from happening. secondly there are techniques to stop the car. this driver has done none of that, all he/she has done was put the hand brake on and bolted out the car. how is that not dangerous driving? in the highway code (assuming) it teaches you how to brake and steer in icy cond.

The people taking the video could have used their time in a more productive fashion by actually walking up the road a bit and warning other drivers of the impending danger.

And the drivers just stoopid!

Getting out of your car in motion is not only dangerous to yourself, but the danger it poses to other road users is unthinkable. At least if they are in the car they can pump the brakes or honk the horn/flash the lights to warn others of an out of control vehicle.

Nice video, but it needs some benny hill music playing in the background.

1, The driver never acclerated, its at the point when he jumped out and his foot came of the break that the wheels started in motion again, they are not moving because of accelaration, they are moving because he took his foot of the brake, watch his brake lights.

2, Steering into the kerb probably wouldnt have worked either as his back end would have just spun round , like it did in the film and ended up going down the hill backwards and you can see what good htiing the kerb did anyway just before they spun around they mounted the kerb and up onto the pavement as the kerbs are so low down.

3, shouldnt have left there vehicle, just for there own safety if nothing else.
