I'm not sure about this because my ISP is Virgin as well, but I have a Netgear router, but when I set up an internet connection on my PS3 it picked the wireless signal up and then I just had to enter the key and then it connected. Maybe you could try changing the channel on your router but I'm not sure what this does or how to do it!!

Dont no of any problem with your router and a PS3. Have you encryption setup on the router? How about MAC filtering is this setup on the router? - probably not.

Do you have any other device connecting to the router? If not - is wifi enabled on the router.

Have you gone through the setup routine on the PS3?, what are your settings you input into the PS3?

I have a PS3 60GB and connected to Virgin Media via Linksys router wirelessly. Connected on first try.

My laptop is using the router and runs fine without any problems, I have put in the WAP key when prompted but it wont connect and says an error has occurred,

I have followed the routine when asked on screen so dunno what i am doing wrong if anything.

I have googled it and it appears to be an issue but still cant connect.

try changing from WAP to WPA-PSK security in your router admin page and then RENEW. or even disable security altogether for a few minutes on your router to see if PS3 connects (select NONE for security on the PS3 wireless setup).

have you checked that the wep key you putting in is correct. its easy to miss a number or letter.

Thanks csiman a mate of mine has suggested that so will give that a go.

And thanks to shanecr as well but quite sure the number is correct as i have entered it so many times.

Disabled the security settings on router but still would not connect.

Although its frustrating i am sure i will get there eventually.

Do you have Norton Anti-Virus or other anti-virus software? Try temporarily disabling that and then trying to connect. ~Sometimes when I used to connect my DS wirelessly Norton would block the connection, so I had to disable Norton, luckily it doesn't happen anymore

hi guys just browsing and saw this thread,

it reminded me of something that may be useful...

last yr i shared a hse with a guy who had his xbox360 online [wired connection] but it would not connect unless mac address filtering was enabled. so i suggest you find the mac address of the ps3 out [it'll be in network setup somewhere] and then add that to the list of allowed mac addresses on/in your router
[be aware that once mac address filter is turned on it will only allow acces to 'registered' mac address hardware, basically you'll have to add your laptop add. in and any other equipment]

this is all supposition of course but i think it might help :) good luck

i had to do that for my mum to use her laptop in her sisters house. even though i had the wep code i still had to access the config pages in the router itself and allow the laptop access. i bet this is the problem suffered in the op.

Hi, I had the exact problem as you. I am with Virgin and i could not connect to my PS3 with my Belkin router. I was on the phone to Belkin many times and Virgin trying to sort out ip addresses, wep keys etc. All to no avail. In the end, i had to go on a wired connection instead. I ran a cable from my Motorolla modem, straight to my ps3. Virgin were not helpful at all, they are all so unexperienced and didn`t have a clue where the PS3 is concerned. I was also charged £1.50 a minute for this. Go wired it`s easier.

You got done then. VM's broadband support line is 25p a minute.
