Bought a 360 from here a few days ago but cant seem to get it off a black and white picture. I have tried it on both a HDtv and a normal tv.

I have used a cable from my 360 that i know works. I have put a scart connection on the end of it but that made no difference,

Switched it from HDTV to TV etc, switched it from 50hz to 60hz.

Nothing makes a difference.

GPU damaged in transit?

Thanks for the idea, i went through the initial set up incase that made a difference and selected PAL.

Are you trying to use the hi def cables on a non hi def TV?

or are you using component cables in composite sockets?
#6
Either E74/RROD arriving or its damaged. Had it been fixed previously.

The one that came with it, is the usual Red Yellow and White. plus some other ones on there.

I also used the one from my new xbox, which is just Red Yellow and white.

Neither cable works.

I asked him about RROD and he replied with.

I opened it up to see for myself when I got it and looks like there's extra cooling in there that Microsoft put into the 2008 models that have HDMI (this one is component), has a Lite-on drive, latest dashboard.

It runs fine, played Forza, Project Gotham Racing and Fifa World Cup in the last few weeks but now I'm bored of it and want to invest some time in Uncharted 2 and God of War 3.

are you sure you are not plugging into component sockets on the tv - red yellow and white is for composite

if it has component out, and you are plugging into composite, again, you will get b&w

unless you can select its output from composite or component out?

again, dont shoot me if you disagree, just you may have a DOH! moment in there

But then using my other cable which i know works surely i cant get that mixed up?!? Use the cable on my xbox and it worked, plugged it into this 360 and it black and white.

Hmm, most likely will be a reconditioned unit from M$ which are not shy of producing E74. Contact seller as most likely it will give up ghost and is faulty

should have read through, he (super_leeds_86) bought it from this thread:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/691856/fs-xbox360-modded-and-banned-from-l

"The xbox does have 1 fault, if you play it on an SD tv, it plays in black and white, if you use the component cable that is supplied or a vga cable, it plays in colour as normal."

You just got scammed mate by him not stating this very clear fault, get him banned.

can you select component or composite output from xbox?

usually B&W just means some setting or wrongly plugged in

oops, read the above, not the ops fault

The moral of the story is don't buy a 2nd hand 360.
#16
Should have got it from Adam2050, hes a legend.

O great. Been well and truly done then.

I didnt buy it from adam as i didnt want 3 xboxes, wish i did now.
#21
Seriously is there anything that can be done with the seller? I'd not be confident with him not mentioning it.

Plus he tried to profit by trying to lay i off at £50 1st when he bought it for £48.

Can believe i tried to buy the damn thing in the 1st place from who he bought it from.
#23
Sorry to hear your having problems, would of gone with Strikes views on this likely to be about to produce or something along the line of Error 74.

Have you got a second power adaptor for it. I have had xboxs produce such problems and Rrod of perfectly good Xbox's because of faulty power packs.

If all does not work, I think ASB is already reviewing but ask the seller if he's willing to take it back.

You kick yourself at times like this, just think that it could have been a lot worse.

I noticed that, its how I found that thread and found the guy buy it.

OP,

Have you read the solution from the previous thread, is that a viable option for you ?

Updated your thread requesting seller gets in touch. Do keep us up to date if issues remain unresolved.

Seen ASB's reply in the thread. Looks to me like a faulty port.

"The xbox does have 1 fault, if you play it on an SD tv, it plays in black and white, if you use the component cable that is supplied or a vga cable, it plays in colour as normal."

Either way the person who sold it knew full well this problem was there.

I have a VGA Cable if needed. Quite happily give you if it helps things just cover the postage.

How is it the sellers fault? It was clearly mentioned in the first post that there was a fault with the XBOX, if the OP didn't read the description properly then that is their own fault.

Seller has done nothing wrong.

Not the 1st seller, the guy who sold the Xbox to the OP in this thread:

http://www.hotukdeals.com/item/703068/wanted-flashed-360-30-00

No mention from the seller that the problem is there.
#31
Peodude definetly no mention of the problem that the buyer bought it with, and knew full well about.

Reviewed the thread again.

Can i have whatever your having please?

OP, ask for a full refund, no point getting it fixed. He probably opened it and tried to fix it because why else would someone open a XBOX360. Whats the XBOX MFR date from the back of the console.
#35
ASB, i cant use it the way the original seller said, none of the TV's in my house can use it.

Apologies, i was looking at the first thread, that was posted on the first page, i thought the OP had bought it from there, in which he acknowledged the fault. I did not realise that the buyer had then sold it on again.

Looking back on the thread, i'm not sure if the sellers made the problem worse or it's got worse with time, as you said you tried component and it wasn't doing that I doubt it would work with VGA, it might do but it might be a waste of further money and time.

I would go with Strike again and ask for a refund and take the lose of returning the item in question, I'm sure ASB will agree with this.

Either way hope it gets sorted.

And if you need to return, try collect + as that only costs £4.95.

Your probably right. Looks like a expensive paperweight then.

To be honest i doubt he will get back, have sent him a text. Will give him a call tomorrow if he does not reply.

Using component cables though ?

You may still have issues though with regards to not knowing about the fault and possible future resale value. Keep me updated with regards to how the dispute resolution proceeds.
