Ok it happened when i first got the notebook but i thought nothing of it and just switched it off then back on again, its now happened a second time....

What happens that when im using it for a bit then the screen would just freeze and went all black apart from a little fuzzy white square, now its just did it again and its went all white on the screen with a black little fuzzy square box :x :x

im thinking of phoning Dell tomorrow and getting a replacement sent out, im thinking it could be the graphics card ??

maybe...just a hunch !!

what does everyone think or has any of this happened to you already ??

Kind of sounds like its overheating, what kind of surface do you have it on?
#2
Graphics is intergrated mate, so its not a card its built in the motherboard.
#3
That does sound like the gfx card/chip, Possibly an incorrectly installed driver?
#4
Format the laptop.

Mines been fine except for the battery which was resolved.

I agree, maybe windows update installed new drivers and made a driver conflict? I would say it is definitely drivers.

Im going to download new drivers for the video from the Dell website

we went in and had a look at the dates before we done it, the date was 02/03/07, the new driver is dated 11/07/2007

Do you think it would be a good idea to go thru all the updates for the Vistro 1000 on the Dell support website to make sure my laptop has them all ??

Applications (3)
Audio (1)
Bios (1)
Chipset (1)
Communication (3)
Diagnostics (2)
Mouse & Keyboards (2)
Network (3)
System Utilities (1)
Video (1)

Thats how many there is for each different type of update

[helper]#12
taz or Iom,

what does all they updates mean ?

like Bios and communications, diagnostics etc
[helper]#13
I tried to update the Bios and it said Error 5 "i dont have rights" lol

but errrr im Admin
#14
yeah they come to you and fix it there and then. well they did with 2 of my friends. ring the number off their site.

BIOS is really ur motherboard settings etc communications id say is certain ports etc..usb serial etc....diagnostics i think is like ur system cleaner, defrag etc? i could be wrong on them all lol
#15
you should install all updates of vista and also ur machine updates. As with having vista (new and still not bug free) there is always bits and bobs being tweek'd and thats what the updates are..just tweeks to make ur pc stable etc
#16
Basic Input Output System

The BIOS makes sure all the other chips, hard drives, ports and CPU function together.
[helper]#17
wonder why it isnt allowing me to update Bios ?? i am logged in as Admin

hmmmm
[helper]#18
how do you mean both Taz ? (vista and also ur machine updates)

do i just update them all from the dell website? just like what im doing just now?

Hey guys, can I ask a quick question about the Dell vostro range in here? I know its listed on the website as for small businesses, but I'm looking to buy a laptop for my sister for uni, and it seems I can configure something for the best price/spec with the vostro range, is it fine for home users to buy them aswell? Do I have to tell a fib to dell if I ever have to call them out via warranty?

Also if you have problems with your Dell machine, try the live chat thats available from their support section, thats what i used to do and it saved calling dell also meant you didnt get stuck in a queue for ages either.
#35
Yes its fine to order for small businesses
