I was kindly given a promo code by a fellow hukd member for £10 off a £15 spend with Next online. I selected just over £15 of items and opened a member account to process my order. As with most online retailers I had to input my information-name, dob, address etc and ticked the boxes to say I accepted terms and conditions and declined daily emails or whatever it is they offer you!

At stage 2 I was given the chance to put in a gift card number but not a promotional code, I clicked through to stage 3 hoping I could put the promo code in at the payment stage and got 'Your order is complete! You will receive your items within 1-2weeks.'

I hadn't entered any payment details and was thoroughly confused so I've rang the customer services. They were very quick (under 2 mins to answer) and polite and helpful, but basically when you select 'accept terms and conditions' the terms state that you are OPENING AN ACCOUNT for which you will receive statements etc and dont input any payment information initially. You then have to process payment through the post or in store etc.Even though I only ordered 10mins ago they will not cancel my order and I will have to go through the motions when my order arrives.

It is completely my fault for not reading the t&c's but I do so much internet buying I didn't expect that Next would be any different to other online retailers.

I just thought some members might not be aware of this& would want to know. Sorry it's a long post, but it will matter to some people!

Lol, I wanted to shout at her, blabbing on about warehouses and how she couldnt cancel my order as it was being processed...within 5 mins or ordering? yeh right! But she was so 'nice' I just decided it wasn't worth the effort!

i thought it was a gift card she gave you - not a promo code

Listen for the news, I bet a lot of other people have had a bad experience, I bet you will hear something about next profits doing badly

This kind of thing always comes back to them, look at Dixons, 20 years ago were making a mint, then the customer service issues became so well known, people didnt go back. now dixons had to rename to currys and still have gone from most towns too

The gift card numbers you enter online are 16 digits with a 4 digit pin number, this number was 10 digits long. The customer care lady said it was a promo code that they would honor if I call them back once I get a statement etc, I don't quite believe her, esp as I don't have the code in hand to answer any questions so will simply cancel the order. x

I didn't mind the customer services so much, even though they were annoying, I was just very surprised that without entering any payment details and without any warning that I was about to complete my order, I had completed an order and opened an account which no doubt accumulates interest etc etc like a credit account.

When I first placed an order with next, this happened to me and I was VERY confused, then much like you I went back and read the t&c's so it was my fault:oops:.

Tbh it hasn't been an issue for me as the items are charged to your bill either that month or the next month, you then have to pay it by the end of the following cycle and it's exactly list price. No charges no interest.

I also get invites now to the vip sale, I spend on the account, then clear it when the statement goes in, it's brill.

Oh and I haven't been charged for a catalogue yet, so it's all good.

Meh if it were me I'd keep the account and discount and pay it off when you get the bill, no charges, nice VIP invites.

I just ignored their demands for payment for the catalogue. The stopped sending catalogues, problem solved!
