There are quite a few process's on my other halfs laptop that are running like maybe up to 5...something isnt right.... might be a few trojans or somthing bad on it.

is there a program i can run that will eliminate the ones that arent supposed to be there or can tell me which ones should be deleted or scanned etc

Ill give you one example, i try and run avast anti virus and EVERY time i run a scan it stops at wmprph.exe and the whole comp just crashes and freezes!!
the only way to turn off the comp is to switch it off manually..which is never a good thing

thanks

What pc do you have? usually the quickest way for me to get into safe mode is to manually shut down my laptop then on restart it actually prompts me to go into safe mode, otherwise you will have to press F8 or something similar.
Then once in safe mode just open up your program list and select your avast, it should start as normal, though may go to a command prompt box scanner, but it will still do its thing

Basically, a virus scanner, then? Try AVG, Avast, or whatever the kids are using these days. Alternatively, could I interest you in running an experiment for me? Something I've been thinking about recently is the possibility of using a Virtual Machine (preferably VMWare, but Microsoft's VirtualPC 2007 has the benefit of being free), and installing WinXP and a virus scanner, or a suit of virus scanners, onto that. Share the entire contents of your system's ahrddrive with the virtual machine, and, in theory, you should be able to scan every file on the system. The major advantage of doing it this way is that as far as the real installation of Windows can tell, it is VMware that is accessing the files. Thus, any viruses running on your real installation won't try to cloak themselves, since they'll only be on the lookout for virus scans, not legitimate accesses from Windows. It also means that viruses can't deactivate your anti virus scanner, since although the scanner run under the virtual machine can see the viruses, the viruses can't see the scanner. It has the disadvantage of meaning that the VM virus scanner can't scan running processes, though.

If I haven't confused the hell out of you there, would you be willing to give it a go if I jotted some rough instructions down? I'm just curious to see if the theory would work.

Cick on start, then run. Type in "msconfig" and click OK.

Go to the BOOT.INI tab.

Put a checkmark in /SAFEBOOT. you can also check network at this point if you want to.

When finished
untick it again to have laptop start in normal mode, otherwise everytime it starts, it will be in safe mode

I find Malwarebytes' Anti-Malware to be the best cleaner ive used.

Picked out stuff missed by AVAST and NOD32 and best of all its free! (not free for real-time, but great for those one-off scans when u feel your a/v is letting you down)

I Use avast home its free, just go to avast website and download avast free home addition,
Don’t forgot to uninstall your present antivirus before installing avast
Once installed
Go to - Start, Programs, and open Avast Antivirus, in top left hand corner is an arrow click on it, then on schedule boot time scan, then on schedule at the bottom. Avast will restart your computer and do a scan before your computer loads up.
Hope this help alern6

I have that exact same laptop. But no problems. The only thing that really bugs me about it, is that the brightness isn't bright enough even though its turned up to the max.
