Prometheus... Does contain spoilers ... and questions.
So, after months of waiting I finally went and saw Promehteus last night. My hopes were high and I couldn't wait.... after seeing it though, I just dont get it.
Can anyone explain to me who the character at the beginning is? Why he takes that stuff and kills himself? And why he was in the movie... he's never mentioned in the rest of the movie.
Also, the characters find lots of dead bodies that were shown in the hologram as running from something... what were they running from?
Also, without giving too much away, I was disappointed with the movie to be honest. Dont get me wrong, it wasn't a bad movie. It is probably best to go with the mindset that it has nothing to do with the Alien movies though. The trailer for Prometheus gives too much away as usual and some parts of the movie are just confusing hence my questions on here... There are even possesed people jumping around like something from a vampire movie (Stupid part that should be on the cutting room floor). It didn't live up to my expectations as a "kind of prequal" to Alien but as a standalone movie I would have said it was OK.

Many of the questions are unanswered as it still maybe has 1 or 2 movies before the aliens in prometheus, evolve into the xenomorphs you know from the Alien franchise.

Got a feeling the follow up may take place on that planet, and I reckon the engineer with the burst chest from the first alien may be elizabeth shaw. As prometheus showed the exo skeleton was actaully some kind of space/flight suit so anyone could have been wearing it.
As to what they were running from who knows?
They were running from the Aliens that seemingly one of them must have got infected with the DNA from or had developed from the vials/casks they were sending to earth, hence why some of the bodys they explained looked like something had 'exploded from the inside' where the aliens had spawned from. This is why they never completed their mission of sending the Aliens to earth.

Also it just didn't have the same sort of feel as an Alien movie. There was action but it was a slower movie focussing more on the exploration and faith. Not enough focus was given to the alien life. There's a squid, a snake and a giant man.... No time is really given to focussing on any of these apart from the giant men. There was no classic moments that will make people remember these things like a face-hugger.
Also, why was this space ship under all that rock? My guess was that they crashed and got burried.... but then it takes off again perfectly fine? Or perhaps they landed here and wiped out the planet... but why was it under all the rock?
oh and I know there are a few of these in the movie... but bear with me on this one. Davids head is on the floor in the big bad spaceship... in effect his head is just like a football..... The big bad space ship takes off and crashes, it rolls across the desert chasing and squashing people, then falls over, but somehow Davids head is still where it was on the floor. It didn't roll around anywhere....
The ship wasn't under rock, it was a docking bay, hence the massive doors opening, which was quite a big scene and can't see how you missed that, the fact shaw was jumping across it as it opened. The planet is as biological weapon facilty i imagine they didn't wipe the planet out.

I like your understanding of this. It would also explain a possible crash landing of the spacecraft.
But this alien at the beginning actually took the stuff himself and then started to vaporise. Maybe he had a guilt complex over destroying worlds and decided to top himself.
no mate it landed there to harvest the new aliens as they didnt want to harvest them on there own planet also the aliens they were breeding were more powerful than they realised thats why all but one of the gient men diedm once they had enough aliens they intended to release them on earth to wipe out all us meer mortals

I agree about Charlize Theron, I don't think she died. They would have made a bigger point of it otherwise surely, I reckon she will be back.

It was on at the end of the film, the weyalnd logo stating weyland corp building better worlds since 10-11-12
