Hi,

Can someone recommend a proxy website which I can use in work - something without the word proxy in it's title.

My work are really stringent and have even blocked our local radio stations website!!

Thanks

best thing i found to get rond this is a remote desktop program (ie teamviewer - free) and leave your computer on put it to min power etc and wont cost much to leave on then simply log onto your computer and you can go to whatever sites you can at home

Are you sure it's worth the risk?

"My work are really stringent and have even blocked our local radio stations website!!"

This makes me think it's even more of a bad idea trying to get round their policies.

If a company is strict enough to limit certain websites then I'm sure they'll be monitoring access too. Have you checked your employee IT agreement???

I wonder if your next thread will be titled "I got sacked for misuse of IT, can they do this???"

With the answer being that you can be given a warning as per their disciplinary procedure and if you are on a final warning then yes they can, or if the breach is so great then again they probably can as well!

As above really, I'd be very careful if they limit what you do a lot, then they will probably have logs and check through them. I loved my Team Leader job and when I put myself on the Business Acquittance for a couple of weeks as I had a unrestricted PC, and the MD didn't care what I did as long as I got my work done as well! :-D

You'll find some businesses have zero tolerance to unauthorised use of IT, particularly if security is a sensitive issue. I've seen some contracts detailing how circumventing IT security is gross misconduct and would lead to instant dismissal.

If you fancy a possible run it with the IT Dept, try http://www.hidemyass.com

Don't blame us if you get sacked though!

Yeah that is what I meant by 'probably' just depends on contracts. But as you say especially if security is an issue then it is more likely.

If they use some decent restriction methods it's going to be close to impossible, logmein might be the only way. I used to just try and get round works to see if I could and I didn't manage it (I was one of the ICT Admin so it was ok. :p).

Sounds like what we use to do at school/sixth form, we would find loopholes in the system for our ICT technicians to sort and we would get free stuff; PC mice, usb thumb drives, games, etc.
We managed to do so much that we shouldn't have been able to, proxies was on of them, mobile firefox on a drive was another one.
But my all time favourite was when I went to university in halls of residence and our internet was the same in all the halls of residence (which some were 6 miles off campus) and they were all interconnected so we managed to get a DC++ server going, and then a few select few of us worked out a way of jumping on the main universities backbone.
This meant we went from 256-512kb speeds upto at times 25mb connections!
Now they have privatised the internet connection though and it has been removed from the university network!

lol, you techy lot.

I only want to listen to the radio... which has been proven to increase work activity due to not chatting and keeping up with the beat of the music!

lol, well today I'm configuring port channels on our distribution layer chassis's with VLAN pruning as well as sorting out reports on Ciscoworks and Orion for VLAN usage issues. Maybe I will get round to some Bluecoat and Nokia Checkpoint maintenance, I shall see how it goes.

fun stuff

Really I though it was all online now? :p

Yeah if it is just the radio you want why not get a portable tuner?
