Getting son a PS3 160 GB for xmas, ordered the deal from Dixons that was on the site last week.
Does anyone know if this is backwards compatible in that does it play PS2 games.
Had a look on google and am confused.

Already have a 360, so no need to turn it into a fight !!

no its not only the original 60gb is

thanks to both of you, might have to return or sell it.
#4
Why, don't you have a PS2?
#5
Yeah, but don't see point in having every console available.
#6
It can play ps1 games but not ps2. You will need to look for one of the original 60gb consoles for ps2 compatibility
#7
Sell all your PS2 games and buy some PS3 ones!

Rumours surfacing on various web sites & blog entries on 4 December 2008 suggested that the latest firmware release (2.53) was to include PS2 backward compatibility to allow the sale of PS2 titles via the 'Store (as predicted by everyone last year) but the decision to do so was withdrawn with the intention of inclusion in a future system software upgrade.

Do not return your PS3 just yet!

Wait, but you have a ps2, just play the games on that. Why go to all the bother of returning and trying to find a 60gb.

No, it hasn't.

The 60Gb PS3 was phased out in the UK from September last year.

It has been speculated that full software emulation would be included at a later date since then.

But yes, you are probably correct; if there is going to be a phased release then the Japanese/Asian territories will see this first.

But I would suspect that all territories will receive the same firmware release (including the PS2 backward compatability feature) concurrently.

I made the mistake of swapping over a hundred quality PS2 games for a PS3. What a fool I am !

?

Depends if you were ever going to play them again.

The 40Gb PS3 was dropped in price towards the end of last year as a potential "sweetener" to the public to provide the option of buying both a PS2 & a PS3 for the same price as that which the 40Gb PS3 was originally introduced to the (UK) market.

I have a new boxed PS3 160GB Limited Edition with the 4 free game codes bought today, but I am not sure if I really want it now. As these are not available anymore I wonder what the going resale price is??

Any ideas??

Have you opened the box? Did you break the seal on the 4 downloadable titles case?

Is the item just as bought?

If so, I would advise just returning it to the store you purchased it from & gaining a refund or a credit note.

It is unopened and good and the box is sealed for the 4 games, I brought it at a bargain price, looking on ebay tonight they are going for £350-£400 so will stick in on there, may have a do in the for sale bit later.

The Recommend Retail Price of this product was £339.99 on the day of release (31 October 2008) [for just the console & the 4 downloadable game voucher codes]. Be careful if offering for sale in the "For Sale / Trade" forum here as you cannot ask for more than this to conform with the trading rules.

PC World are offering a "Sony 160gb package with 3 TOP games" (Product code: 103245) for £341.56 (with free delivery).
