PS3 60gig or 40gig???

Hi all

I'm just looking for some advice. I've currently got a PS3 60gig model which i bought back in october (still have the box and receipts etc). But I'm thinking of selling it now and getting the 40gig model, cause im sure i can make about £100 out of this. I dont play any ps2 or ps1 games on there to be honest so dont really see the point of keeping the 60 gig model. Am i missing any other key points i should be taking into consideration.

Please feel free to discuss.

Nope only the Card Reader, PS1/PS2 games and you only get 2x USB on the 40GB.

Oh corse the 20GB but you can upgrade the HDD anyway so that dont matter.

Condition of 60gig plus controllers/games/hdmi cable and reciept will all help towards the selling price

How are you intending to make £100?

I had a 40GB and a 60GB, and sold the 60GB on ebay for £420 - I never used it for PS2 games, and found the 40GB quieter. You should be able to pick up a 40GB for about £250, and like numpty said, theres a slimmer version (supposedly) coming out soon - so you could always sell the 'fat' 40GB then for a small loss (don't imagine it would be much) and buy one of the new slimmer ones.

Well i see some 60gig ps3's going around the £350 mark and you can get a 40gig for about £250...

so if sell mine at the price and buy a 40gig then i should pocket about £100...or i could be wrong.....just something i'm thinking about as i got a few expenses coming...but cant imagine my life without a ps3 though;-)

tbh, i doubt you'll make more then £60. So unless you really need the money it's not worth the hassle. I could be wrong though.

Is the size going to be the only difference...like with the ps2 when the slim one came out???

cause im not to bothered about it being 'fat' or 'thin' as long as it works....

Don't know really. I'd imagine it'll probably have a bigger HDD though (poss 80GB).

I was dying for a PS3 lol. So bought it. Next year they'll be bringing out three more ps3's. The only difference will be the HDD size and number of usb ports.
Oh and one of the ps3's will be available in several colours. Inlcuding pink apparently, for some strange mysterious reason....

well im sure there are some people who would want their PS3 to match the room furniture...even if it is pink....some 'interesting' people out there!!

I think by smaller PS3 they mean chip sizes. Smaller CELL processors etc. That doesn't mean a Slim PS3. Xbox 360 have been doing this its brings down costs and makes its more energy efficient.

HDD Size, and the lack of the PS1/2 emulator is the only difference you will notice. Internally the newer version will likely have improved although cheaper components.

HDD's on the PS3 can be self upgraded in minutes and very cheaply without voiding the warrantee.

Card reader is also missing which I sometimes use. I would never get rid of my 60GB.
I just had mine replaced because the Blu-Ray broke. I was told the 60GB has 2yr warranty as well which was good because I was expecting to pay to get it repaired!

I cant see you getting as much as £100 if I was you I would just keep what you have! No point in a downgrade :P lol

Thanks for helping me make my mind up. I'll be sticking to the 60gig model.

I'm not into this personally, but buy some cheap stuff you see on HUKD and sell it. Seems to work for everybody else.

Uhm one thing.... where do people get their information from because I keep reading new rumours about PS3 models... practically every week.

Does anyone have any solid information confirmed by Sony on the next PS3 model?
